Anyone buy glasses (frames) online?

Looking for some designer brands for decent prices online. Any tips? Even non-designer brands...just trying to find somewhere cheaper than the optometrist.

goggles4u.com advertises on slickdeals and they seem to be decent. my gf just bought a pair on some other site for really cheap, forget from where. the place had some not so great reviews, but they ended up fine. I'll try to find it.

I've used goggles4u.com and coastalcontacts.com

Goggles4u has some dirt cheap stuff, I got 3 pairs of glasses (1 regular, 2 sunglasses) for about $35 shipped. Not super amazing quality, but certainly good enough. And they are practically disposable at that price. So no need to be worried about breaking your $400 glasses all the time.

Coastalcontacts is usually more expensive, but their customer service really is top notch. Got glasses for my wife (progressive ones with transition lenses) for $150 or so. They developed a "fog" (not sure whose fault it was), but called them up, and within a couple minutes they processed the order for a new one and gave a prepaid label to ship back the old ones as soon as the new ones arrived.

So if you have a fairly simple prescription or don't want frills (transitions, etc) then I'd go for the dirt cheap ones (like goggles4u) and if something happens you can always get another one for dirt cheap. If you want something fancier then I'd recommend coastalcontacts as they will take care of you if something goes wrong.

Tried zennioptical 3 or 4 years ago for my son - he broke his 2nd pair of glasses within a year. Replaced them for under $20 - very happy with the quality. Since then, I've ordered several pairs, my wife has ordered several pairs, and my son has gotten several pairs. The only pair that I wasn't happy with is a pair of prescription safety glasses. They put them in one of those protective cases - and it wasn't quite big enough. This led to the pair being slightly tilted to the left when on my face - I don't like them. But... $15 for a pair of prescription safety glasses? They're still less annoying that getting an oversized pair to put over my regular pair when I'm doing something dangerous to my eyes.

I was shopping for a set of Luxotica Metal Frames Model LU1020U ... most local places do not carry the full line of that brand and the optician would have charged $150 for them. Did a search with Google and I found that Opticsplanet.com had the best price and with a coupon code, ordered them for $72 shipped. But they do not keep them in stock, so it will be a 2 week wait from date of order. Then I will bring the frame to get the lenses made to fit it.

I go though a lot of glasses, I have about 5 different pair currently and I'm about to buy 2 more, and I've been buying from 39 Dollar Glasses for a few years now, I've been mostly pleased with what I got.

I think for the ones I'm about to buy I'm going to try Warby Parker. They will ship you 5 glasses to try on, a friend of mine used them and loved their service.

If you are looking for more brand name or designer glasses take a look at Select Specs

I got mine from ZenniOptical.

My coworker buys all of his glasses from them, even though we have pretty good optical insurance. Dr Pizza ,I have a tilt on my current glasses. I just chalk it up to my face not being symmetrical.

Don't get me wrong, Zenni's quality is great, but there's a downside.

You have to do all of the "fitting" yourself, which can be a pain and sometimes requires special tools.

I'm not sure what fitting you are doing, there is not really much that can be 'fitted' on modern glasses. And for tools, all you could possibly need is a small screwdriver and a hot glass of water for warming the plastic to bend the ear pieces.

My glasses' frames are completely rimless and consist of pieces of titanium wire, held together with bolts; not screws. There was quite a bit of adjustment and the purchase of a tiny nut driver involved. The end result was awesome, though. Extreme lightweight combined with very tough polycarbonate lenses.

But, yeah, YMMV depending on what frames you get.
