Im looking to buy a Accord Sport maybe in 2-6 weeks. Im planning to down maybe 4-5k on the car. I have been talking to every dealer in the city and vicinity. None of them are doing too much on the price of the car. I am really trying to avoid the dealer doc fee. in NC there is no max or min, so this is something that should be able to be negotiated.

Anyways, What dealership have you had a good, fair experience at ? And what was the price paid

This is my first new car purchase, and i would love any negotiational tips.

Thanks

Can't comment on the quality of local dealerships, but TrueCar is showing an average sale price for the 2013 Accord Sport Sedan MT at about $23k, with a concentration of people paying MSRP.

Common things that get the price down are: Being an owner of a Honda/whatever manufacturer brand you're buying, recent college graduate, serving in the military, and sometimes your company will have a car-buying service. I know that Costco has one that comes with your membership, dunno how much it helps, but it would probably pay for the membership itself ($60 iirc). USAA also has a good car buying service if you're a member.

Tactics that help: Buying end-of-month and end-of-year. Honda always runs end-of-year specials, and dealerships looking to make quotas will tend to be more flexible at the end of a month. I remember there being a time of the week to go, but more than anything just know what you want going in. Don't negotiate from a monthly payment standpoint, go item by item and know what you're about to sign.

Also read the sale agreement very carefully, I've seen it help and hurt the buyer. One coworker got several thousand extra for his trade because of a typo, a different one got stuck in a 6-year loan instead of the 4-year he thought he was getting.

The internet is a buyer's friend since it lets you compare multiple dealerships easily, and of course being clear-headed and prepared help. Don't rush, and leave if you're not happy with the agreement.

Have you tried CarWoo yet?

http://carwoo.com/

They might be able to get you a bit of a lower price. More details:

Also, my wife just picked up a Honda Civic and they had a $500 cashback rebate or something going on from Honda. Didn't help a ton, but it knocked $15 a month off the 36-month lease, which was nice. And if you can handle waiting until the end of the month, your local dealerships probably have quotas to meet, so they'll negotiate more.

I bought a car from the Honda dealership in Indian Trail. It wasn't a new car but decent people to deal with, at least as far as car dealers go. I'd buy from them again.

I think im going to wait till i have a bit more $$ in the bank for a down payment, and near the end of the month. Might check it out at the end of march, or possibly May would be the best time.

Dunno... Work two dealers against each other and make sure they know it. Don't broadcast to them what you do for a living, or how much you intend to put down or even that you intend to trade. Buy on the last day of the month. Truecar is good for getting an idea on local prices/deals, but also pay the $14 to consumer reports (per report) for a better report on local prices on that specific make/model. Well worth it.

It all comes down to your negotiating skills. People that go to a dealer thinking they are going to beat them or show them a thing or two probably get beat more times than not.

I've been in professional sales for years and that doesn't mean I'm properly equipped to deal with the dealers, but it does help.

Have you looked at other makes? Seriously... Sometimes it is just timing. We really wanted a Mazda several years back but the dealers were not looking to deal on them... We found a Chevy dealer willing to work a bit more with us.
