Anyone burn a DL DVD ?

Hi everyone, I just wanted to know if anyone's actually burned a DL DVD yet ?

If so , which drive did you use & is the media compatible w/ set top dvd players ?

I have a Plextor 708a but was thinking to get a NEC 3500a for DL burning.

Also where's the lowest price for DL media ? Is it still very expensive ?

havent heard of anyone on AT using DL media yet (would be just as curious if someone has). you can get verbatim discs for about $10 if you so desire. while doing research on the pioneer dvr-108, i came across a post from a guy on another forum who had burned a couple of them sucessfully.

$10 per disk is too high, maybe $4/disk .. No wonder no one's using them...

The NEC 2510A drive that I have will do it, but at $14/Disk I decided to wait a bit before I dove in and tried it.

I have used my Optorite 12X DVD+/-RW DL 2.4X, to burn a DL movie on the above mentioned Verbatim disks. The process took about 35 minutes for a 7.2GB Movie and it played perfectly with no issues on both my Sony and Samsung DVD Players. I have not tried it on my Xbox yet, but since it is picky with media I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't work.

From what I know right now, both Pioneer's 108/A08 and NEC's 3500 support DVD-ROM Book on DL. That will yield the best set-top compatibility. Don't know about the other writers that are being released.

I have the NEC 3500a but I haven't installed it yet due to the high media cost( brought the drive before checking the price of media ) A Pack of 5 from Dabs.com here in the Uk is over £50 with PP. Might be a little while before I get to use it.

about $70-80 USD for..5..? just spent $93 USD shipped for 200 +R Ritek single layer(atip as RicohJPNR01..do 8x fine on my current DW800A)
