After 4 years, snowboarding finally took it's toll. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone could share some experiences. How long after the accident did you get your real cast? damn it hurts to type ..

A friend of mine just smashed his wrist recently. Had to put pins to help the recovery. The whole affair is been going on for two months now, and may take another month for him to be able to work again.

Can't tell you any more specifics, but I feel sorry for you. He said it still hurts after all this time. Do whatever the doctor says, which probably means "no typing if it hurts". You don't want this stuff to linger for the next few decades...

Good luck.

me and the ground had an unfortunate collision
i had my cast for almost 6 weeks
and the stupid thing itched like crazy the whole time
word of advice : avoid using a hanger!
i got desperate and used one which virtually ripped up my skin

I broke mine when I was about 8 years old. I tried jumping down some stairs, didn't stick the landing, first thing to break my fall was my hand...snap...broken wrist.

There's a chance you'll have a cast that keeps your arm at a 90 degree angle with your elbow, and the cast will go above your elbow and down to the second set of knuckles. It really depends on the severity of the break and how far up the wrist it is.

As far how long you have to wait before you get a cast, that depends upon how bad the swelling is. The longer the swelling persists, the longer you have to wait to get the cast.

Casts aren't really that bad. I broke my hand in football my freshman year and had a cast that went from the second set of kuckles up to my elbow, I still managed to play Offensive tackle and defensive tackle with it on. Just had to wrap it up so that I didn't hurt anybody with it :)

Worse part is when you get the cast off, your arm will be half the size as the other one, the hair on it will be really black, and your skin will be all icky.

Just something you have to deal with :frown:

At age 17 I broke my right wrist and fractured my left one jumping off a wall to reach a what-seem-to-look-like-a monkey-bar on the ceiling. I caught the bar but loss grip while my legs were swinging to a horizontal position and fell on my ass and back while my arms and hands were trying to "catch the fall". A full cast from my right palm to my biceps lasted 8 weeks.

I played high school football, and here in West Texas, we're SERIOUS about high school football (ever see Varsity Blues? :Q)

anyway, I broke my wrist twice, blew my knee out in spring practices and was on crutches all summer before my senior year (still started come fall though) and a broke my thumb and my index finger.

Wow thanks guys. Right now I have a fiberglass mold type thing wrapped in Ace bandage that goes above elbow down to second set of knuckles but I get my *real* cast on Tues. Hopefully I'll be able to use the mouse in the right hand again. I did get to take a shower finally, bought one of those airtight giant condoms you put over your arm.. hehe.
