I think I broke the little toe on my left foot. I kicked the door jamb of my bedroom door while walking barefoot this morning. A couple of people at work told me that the Dr would only tape it up as there was nothing else to do. So I taped it to the next toe. That helped with walking but webmd says not to tape a broken toe. The toe is purple and swollen but no bones are sticking out.
What did the Dr do for you?
And no, I am not going to the Dr for a broken toe.

I went to the emergency room when it happened to me a few months back. The angle of the break was pretty severe and I figured something would have to be done. Not so. All they tell you to do is TAPE it. Even though this contrasts what WebMD has to say, I prefer to take the advice of the ER doctor.

I've never broken a toe, but I have broken many fingers. I always just taped it to the finger next to it. YMMV I'm not a doctor so don't take my advice.

That's an option, I have my bolt cutters right here. It can't hurt any worse.

Yeah, nothing you can do. I broke mine last august. Really dumb way too. I was laying on the couch, decided I wanted a beer, so I rolled off, ended up in a four point stance on the floor, swung my right foot down to push myself up, and kicked it right into the floor just about as hard as I could. There was a sickening crack, and needless to say I forgot all about the beer.

It hurt so bad I couldn't sleep. I got up at 5:30 and was gonna call someone to take me to the ER, but I ended up falling asleep in the chair until about 10 am. When I woke up it didn't hurt so bad.

It healed just fine, but now I am a walking rain-predicter. The day before we get rain, my big toe hurts :D. Doesn't work for snow though.

Don't worry too much about it. As long as it's straight and not at a 90 degree angle, just put up with it.

Oh, and do your best to not hit it until it heals. It doesn't hurt as bad as breaking it, but it's DAMN close. It might even be worth it to pick up a set of steel toed boots :D

I've broken bones in my right foot twice. :( First time, the doc told me just to live with it. Second time (this one was much worse, 3 breaks on two toes) I had to wear a sandal for 6 weeks. The doctor gave me a choice of the sandal or a cast... I should have taken the cast. It was really painful.

For a little toe, odds are it should heal ok. But you really should see a doctor...

Thanks, folks. I took Zim's advice and cut it off. How do I stop the bleeding?

;)
I'll just live with it and keep it taped. There is no deformanity, just swelling and bruising.

Yep. If it was something serious I'd go to the Dr. But my new insurance only pays 80% with a $20 co pay. All I used to have to pay was a $5 co pay but that company pulled out of this area and only my present company was available.

I broke one of my little toes in 17 places...it was sticking out from my other toes at a 90 degree angle. The ER doc said that I pretty much shattered all the little bones in there and that they were going to have to take it off, but he gave it one shot to set it, and it worked--all the breaks lined up well enough for it to heal. That sucked. The funny thing is now, I don't even remember if it was the left or right one.
