Anyone bought Fuji CD-R's recently?

I picked up a couple of spindles today and things have changed. They're still using Taiyo Yuden discs, but the packaging has changed. Instead of the famous detachable spinner top on the 50 pack spindles it's now the same cakebox pack that everyone else uses. Not a biggie, but the ones I bought recently can't burn beyond 16x. I've tried Nero, CDRWin, Clone CD and (shudder) even EZ CD Creator and none of them will burn the discs in the new packaging beyond 16x. I'm 100% sure that it's not the drive, computer or software because some leftover discs from the old packaging are burning at full speed, only the new ones are screwed up.

Anyone else bought Fuji's with that new spindle style and if so, did they burn at rated speed for you?

Sorry mods, hit enter instead of apostrophe when typing title of that last Fuji thread, but I see it's already been locked.

I bought a 50-pack that did not have the screw top at Best Buy a few months ago. They have performed well in my Verbatim (Lite-On) - they burn at or close to the burner's max speed (52x) using both EZCD 5 and Nero.

I've bought 2 100-packs (2x50) in the last month.. and so far everything burns at 42x (my cdrw speed) perfectly.

so they're still taiyo yudens, even though they're not the cakebox top? interesting.

Thats been like that for a while (3-4 months or so), I like the new "cases" better.

At work I've got like 250 of the old Fuji's still lying around, it'll be awhile before I can go through them all. :)

I also have a 2x50 (used 1 completely) from BB a few weeks back and all have burned at 48x (though not flawlessly).

I don't know what your spindle is like but the FujiFilm CDR spindles I've seen recently lock much better than the chintzy, small keyed tabs of all other CDR spindles. In fact, I prefer the new design over the screw-top as it's easier to get the cover off.

And as others have confirmed, they're all 48X media these days.
