Anyone bought a Seagate OEM Hard Drive lately?

I bought a new 1TB Seagate ST1000DM003, and it came in anti-static bag only sealed by a plain white sticker. I'm used to them being factory-sealed in anti-static bag, but haven't bought a Seagate OEM HDD in a long time. Did I get a returned drive sold as new, or is that how they come now?

I got one on BF, and it came in a typical bag that had to be sliced or torn apart, no sticker. No idea if they do come other ways or not, though.

What is the date of manufacture? I'd write zeroes to the entire drive and put it through some other strenuous tests right away just in case you do want to return it.

I just received one of those last Friday and it came the same way. Works just fine and didn't appear to be used at all.

Thanks, I also got in another 2TB Seagate and it was the same way...sealed by plain white sticker. So I guess that's how they're coming now. At least from Newegg.

Sounds about right.

I bought three recently, one is on the way.

First one was a 1TB Seagate OEM drive from newegg. Arrived in anti-statig bag only sealed with a sticker.

Second one was the same 1TB OEM drive I bought from TD with a $30 MIR, except that they shipped it in an anti-static bag and plastic packaging with a small piece of paper with UPC on it which was for rebate purposes.

Most recent one I bought was a 2TB OEM Seagate drive also from TD and also with a $30 MIR. Bought it last Thursday via shop runner 2 day shipping. Still hasn't arrived :\

Mine shows "Date: 14094"

I don't see an actual date anywhere else on the label

Thanks, 14094 corresponds to 2013-08-28. Older than I would've liked, but at least I got the 2TB/2 platter version (Seagate also sells the 3 platter version under the same model number...sneaky).

How do you know that?

If you are worried about the reliability or newness of drive, you can always use some free software that allows you to monitor raw SMART data. On Xubuntu I use GSmartControl.

Do not be alarmed if you see a lot of "pre-failures" in the attributes. This is normal for many drives. As an example here is a screenshot of my old 1TB Seagate drive:

That's how my new Seagate SSHD came. (Great drive! If you can't afford a SSD and you still need a hard drive anyway, I love my SSHD for only $20 more!)
