If so, how was it?

Edit-

Well the general response sounds good, im considering getting myself one for xmas 🙂

Second, I would have to convert a lot of WMA lossless over to AAC, is the Itunes wma>aac converter that good (audiophile here, cant have quality loss). Or would I be better off burning the lossless rips to a virtual cd, then ripping into AAC from itunes?

yes I got a black 60gb video (gen 5) and it is excellent, 100% like new save for the packaging (came in a brown cardbox instead of a pretty package)

yes I believe all refurb have their casing replaced, possibly the battery as well

there was a big thread about the refurbs on a deals forum I go to. generally everyone was happy with theirs.

oh yeah just to be clear, I'm talking about refurbs directly from apple.com/.ca, not a third party

I bought a 2nd gen refurb for about $150 a couple of years ago from Hot Deals. It was practically brand new (in fact, if someone had opened it I couldn't tell). It's still going strong with only one battery replacement after all these years.

Exact same experience here. You will be pleased, plus you saved a bunch of money.

Aye, why not go WMA Lossless -> Apple Lossless?

lossless is lossless. apple lossless doesn't play on zune, and wma lossless doesn't play on ipod as far as i know. meh. both probably overkill for ipod type players. some people keep lossless in flac or whatever on their drives for main collection, and transcode a separate mp3 or whatever collection for their portable. harddrive space is cheap and plentiful now so why not eh? its overkill for the portable, and it surely eats at the battery life.. much less can be cached into memory. so no point.

Bought a white 30 GB video Ipod for the wife in August. Looks/feels as new. The price difference was $179 vs $249. Other than the poor battery life of the Ipod (while watching video) she loves it.

AFAIK, at least on the iPod, the battery power lost to spinning the hard drive up more often is regained because of the lower CPU load required to decode Apple Lossless. I might be wrong though.

I ordered mine (20gb for $99) yesterday at noon and I received it today at lunch.

It looks like the front plastic is new but the back is "old", I saw a tiny scratch on mine. I wouldn't have noticed it if it was new but since it's a refurb I looked real close.

Great service and a great product.
