Anyone out there bought a cheap PC lately? How much did you pay? What are the specs?

I'm cramming for a Linux certification and I need something I can practice Redhat and some other flavors of Linux on.

I was doing that intially, but now I want a standalone box to practice some server type stuff and other networking features.

meh

my building days are over, I have a 5 month old baby and another one possibly on the way. I don't have time to work, study, care for a baby and build machines too. maybe one day after the kids move out :p

CC occassionally has Acers for <$300. I got one for $270 with a 17" CRT and all-in-one printer (AMD something 3100+, 256 MB of RAM, 160 GB)

heh, VMWare is great. I used it in my last position, but I have a good excuse to spend money on another PC so I can't resist the urge. Besides I'm thinking of using the box as a HTPC too. Should be a fun little project.

just scrounge for parts enough for an older amd machine on the forums.
u could cob together a perfectly viable tower for under a $100.
