Anyone believe in karma?

Now I'm not talking about the Hindu stuff where you come back as a dog if you screw up in this life.. I'm talking about the general idea that what goes around comes around.. Even though I'm basically an atheist I've been thinking alot about it.. Any thoughts?

Notice this isn't a poll- I'm not looking for yes or no answers (or any).. Let's just pretend to be some stoned college kids waxing philosophical over a pint

I don't know. I do believe that if you behave like a dick, sooner or later people will so many will dislike you that you will get what you deserve. Life is what you put into it.

 

Yes - I believe in it, but only practically. If you're an asshole, then sooner or later, being mean is going to come back and bite you in the ass. Conversely, if you're nice to people and helpful when the time arises, then you'll be repaid because people will help you out too.

But do you believe that there is some force keeping track? I wouldn't go as far as calling this force "God" but do you believe that somehow, somewhere, your good deeds are being tallied and rewarded? Like if today I helped mr. X move push his car out of a ditch, repayment of this good deed may come from mr. Y... I'm just philosophizing here so don't think I'm crazy.. My point is, is it fair to suppose that good deeds will be rewarded, even if not by the person you helped? Kinda the butterfly flapping his wings theory...

Karma IS just another word for cause and effect. There are spiritual laws, and this is one of them. What goes around does indeed come around, one way or another.

I completely forgot about all the people who don't like others to have different opinions . Maybe it be best if I don't explain, because I'm sure 98% of this forum would disagree with me, and 60% would flame me.

I do to a point, but there is no guarantee. You could be Mother Theresa and end up being sh!t on all of the time, or you could be ol' Saddam and live a life of luxury. I do think that the more enemies you make, the bigger d!ck you are, etc. will make more and more people dislike you. That could or could not affect you in the long run, but chances are it will. I just don't put a 100% guaranteed sticker on it, though.

I have not seen any evidence that there is something or someone keeping track on a cosmic scale. But I do know I feel better when I treat everyone and everything the same way I want to be treated.

dude the hindu relgion thing is what u do comes around, u can't separate the two things, its just that in the Hindu Relgion it takes it a step further, and adds that your actions can affect your next lives.
