Anyone been to Venezuela?

My GF went there to do some humanitarian work, she left on Monday and I still haven't recieved any calls from her. Should I be worried? Is it hard to find a phone in Venezuela?

Depends on which part she's working in. I have a friend that's doing research in Venezuela and she's never had a problem finding a phone/internet connection. She lives in the more developed areas though (aka the city).

I think she's in a fairly undeveloped area, but their hotel is supposed to be in town. Man... I hope she just busy and just hasn't had a chance to call :frown:

So let us know how the break up goes.

Nah relationship has been good, just no call. I just realized this week how often we call each other; feels strange not having someone call me everyday.

i've been there. not the safest place in the world. i'd say, as far as south america, only colombia would be worse.

darnit, I told her not to go...

It probably costs too much to make a phone call from the hotel since a) it will be at a Hotel rate and b) its an international call. Would you spend $200 to call her for 2 minutes?

My GF lived in Venezuela, things have quieted down tho lately. What part is she in?

Don't really know, she just found out herself a day or 2 before leaving. I forgot to ask her.

Oh yeah, I just did a google search for venezuela and an article about people dying in the Hurricane came up... Kinda freaked me out a bit so I called her sis.

Turns out she called her family last night; well at least I know she's alive. I guess I don't really need to worry then, she's kinda frugal so I figure she's just trying to not make too many calls.

The Venezuelan government is openly anti-American these days, so it's not the greatest country to be traveling in.

That said, she's probably in a remote area without access to outside world.

Oh well. Calling 1/4 of the way across the globe through multiple countries can be expensive.

You don't need to talk to her THAT bad, do you?

I'll let you know what it's like. I'm off to Colombia this Christmas.
