Anyone been to the Poconos Mountains recently?

The last time I went to the Poconos Mountains was with my family about 15 years ago. I'm considering going there this year with my fiance for a romantic weekend, but I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it. Some of the reviews I've read online indicate the hotels there are pretty rundown and it feels almost like a college campus. I can somewhat see that, based on what I remember from being there.

Is this place really in a time warp of sorts, or have they adjusted to add new stuff to keep it exciting?

I remember it when I was a kid. It was a nice, thriving, relatively upscale place. I went there again about 10 years ago, and it was looking rundown, with a lot of "criminal element" type people from New York mixed in with the normal Pocono crowd.

I went back a couple years ago and it was a run-down ghosttown populated mostly by the thug-type people who drove the money out of the place. New York City has moved in, and the town is ruined.

Wow interesting. I'm always looking for good places to visit for a weekend here in the northeast, and I was hoping the Poconos would've been a good choice, but it sure doesn't seem like it.

i am in that area weekly. it is really nice there. while i dont stay over, the hotels look nice on the outside, i cannot see how they would be crappy on the inside.

You can't have a female fiance. "Fiance" denotes that it's a man. "Fiancee" is a woman.

I can have a female fiance if I misspell the word "fiancee"....

While Occam's Razor suggests that you're right, I like the Brokeback Mountain reply better.

When I was young I used to go to the Concord and the Nevelee up in the Poconos for Fire Dept. conventions with my dad.

I hear those hotels are disgusting now, so i reccomend staying away from them.

mountains?

To me that means pitch a tent.

Oh I'll probably be 'pitching a tent', but if it's camping you're talking about, then I'll likely do that elsewhere...

Which specific place are you talking about? Poconos covers a lot of geography.

My brother/sister in law spent their honeymoon at the Caesar's resort and loved it. It also getting to be "off-season" for that area. You could probably rent a house for a week.
