Avoid upper Manhattan/lower Bronx at all costs

I'm not too classy, so no dining/sites-to-visit advice from me

EDIT: Comedy Clubs is a must to go to. Any comedy club is good in the city, but some you can't just walk in and pay so try googling some clubs.

It's good. Make sure you set aside a couple hours, make a reservation, save room for dessert.

The duck when I went had some sort of plum glaze or marinade. It was awesome. Highly recommended.

It's very sexy. The Mister and I go there on special occasions, and I always end up getting very frisky with him. I think dipping bananas in chocolate spiked with Grand Marnier does it to me.

Hated it..

We took my wife's mother there for her birthday..

Took us 2 hours to finish our food..

YOU HAVE TO COOK YOUR OWN FOOD!!!

Cost us $200 for 4 people and WE HAD TO COOK OUR OWN FOOD!!

Careful, the oil gets really hot..
My wife and I felt like we were trapped there until the food was done..

OMG!
If you think "cooking" is just dipping stuff in hot oil, there's a lot you don't know about going on behind the scenes to prepare the food for cooking. The broth must be prepared, the food is carefully marinated and seasoned, and all of this preparation is going on behind the scenes while you relax and dip. As someone who has actually prepared 3-course fondue meals on my own, I can tell you from personal experience that there is a lot going on behind the scenes....so much so that it can become hard to enjoy your own meal when you do it yourself because you are busy setting up the next course.

Besides - it's fondue. You should have known going in that you were going to have to do this...complaining that you went to a fondue restaurant and had to cook your own food is like complaining at a buffet that you have to get the food yourself.....it's pretty much the whole point, and if you dislike that point, don't go...

It is anything but cheap. It's great for special occasions, although since I know how to do it myself, arguably better than they do it, I don't even bother on special occasions anymore.

BTW, the length of the meal is part of the allure. Some people don't rush through their meals. IMO, it's awesome to slowly make your way through a huge meal. One part of justifying the somewhat high cost is the fact that at Applebee's you get in and get out in 45 minutes. The rapid turnover means they can make the same amount of money despite charging less.

LOL, The Melting Pot is NOT a place to take your mother in law unless you really, really dig her.

I consider it a place for me and the Mister only. And if there is a family sitting nearby us, well they might just get a show. :D

It's not the place to go to if you're really hungry, but as far as desserts? GET THE YING AND YANG. Best. Dessert. Evar.

We've talked about going with some other couples. It is $$$ for a fondue place. Still may try it sometime.

I worked at a Melting Pot for a few months. I thought it was a cool restaurant and a great for a special date.

The Yin and Yang dessert was always a cool one to make. If you like mushrooms, I'd suggest the mushroom salad. I'd say the meats and different sauces are my favorite parts, so I always get the meat combo dinner.

2 hours and $50/head is about right. Add drinks on top if you are going to be hitting the sauce.
