Well this summer I am planning on going on a paradise type vacation and was thinking about the Bahamas. I have heard great things about Nassau. I was wondering if anyone has been to the bahamas and if they have, where did they stay (as in what part), the hotel, and about the total amount of money spent. I am looking for ideas where to stay and trying to figure about around how much money I would be spending. Thanks

Go to the out islands instead of the big islands. Much more of the "paradise" feel. Eleuthera and Harbor Island are both nice. I would recommend Belize over the Bahamas though - Ambergris Caye IS paradise...

Nassau is far from paradise if you venture off the resorts. It is a dirty, slummy place. We took a ride around the island a few weeks ago and the driver showed us the nice area and then he took us to the slums. I'd hit St. Maarten if I were you.

EDIT: And wouldn't you want to land here? http://www.airliners.net/open.file/528889/M/

Nassau is a piece of crap, but you cant beat the party atmosphere at the bars... The Zoo particularly is cool. I remember yacking in a closet at my hotel because I thought it was a bathroom... oops.

I used to goto the Bahamas all the time but I only got to stay on the ground about 6 hours a time. Nice beaches and the landings are not that bad. Check your budget before you decide on the other islands like the Virgin Islands. Your goods cost a lot more there.

We went to the BVI in January on the Flying Cloud (She doesn't seem to be in the fleet anymore!). Started out in Tortola and went to quite a few small islands where the big ships can't dock. Very relaxing & slow paced, toured some of the islands, did some snorkeling and went parasailing for the first time!

My friend and his family go every January (I'm going with them next year :D) and they said the Bahamas are great but Nassau is terrible. I think they said its kinda trashy and there's not a whole lot to do there.

iamwiz82, have you been to St. Maarten in June or July? I was wondering what the weather/climate is like...is it rainy season then?

Thanks.

Nassau was... interesting... the first thing we saw was a dead rat upon arriving there. There are so many solititors psuhing their goods its disgusting. I was not impressed.

St Maarten was wonderful even in February. I could only imagine it would be hotter and nicer in June. The water was cool there in the middle of Feb, so it would be warm in the summer. Everyone is very "open". You HAVE to visit Orient Bay Beach. It is called the French Rivera of the Caribbean and tons of great people watching. Part of it is a nude beach, but don't expect to see any "hot" girls. Mostly older OLDER eurpoeans nude! Great beach, tons of water sports and good bars!

Lola, were you on a cruise? If so, which cruise line?

Which hotel/resort did you stay in when you were on St. Maarten? By chance, you didn't happen to see a water/aqua trampoline anywhere did you?

We were on the cruise together. She is the person in quite a few of my shots. ;) We did not see any water trampolines there, but her uncle's neighbor has one. :D

I've been there for a wedding. Very expensive. It seems as though everyone is out to rip you off.
