Anyone been to NYC since the smoking ban? Is it working?

Why? Why do you have to legislate your morality and personal preference on other people and business owners? Why couldn't you just pick your lazy drunk fat ass up and go to another bar?

<-- doesn't smoke but thinks rabid anti-smokers are assholes

It's not a question of legislating morality or personal preference! Get that through your head. It is banning something that causes physical harm to others that do not smoke. If smoking was kept completely to yourself, then I wouldn't care. I would be all for smoking everywhere.. But, that smoke has to go somewhere - and when I'm around, it goes into my lungs. BTW, I wouldn't mind if there were separate 'smokers' bars', but, since that has never happened, drastic measures have been forced upon us.

Now.. banning pot smoking completely IS a question of legislating morality or personal preference. So, I am all for legalization of pot. I just don't want people blowing that smoke in my face either.

That's really cool... I wish smoking and drinking was forbidden everywhere under the fear of severe criminal prosecution, like drugs. Many people are stupid. You can only teach them with an iron fist.

Inside public facilities -> smoking shoud be banned
Inside private facilities -> decision shoud be made by owner of facility

It is. You're telling a business owner how to run his business. The issue should be up to the business owner, not the government. If you don't smoke and don't want to be around smoke, go to a different bar. And don't bring up the workers either, they have a choice where they work.
And separate bars for smokers and non-smokers has happened and has worked. Here in Portland, in fact, we have a VERY successful chain of non-smoking bars known as McMenamins. They started as brew pubs at first and in 10 years have expanded to include full bars, night clubs, restaurants, and hotels - all non-smoking. Government intervention was never necessary.
As for the "harm" of secondhand smoke, that data is dubious - believe it or not. Of course, it's not healthy, but whether it really kills or not is really in doubt. First, no smoker ever got cancer who smoked for less than 10 years. Second, non-smokers who get lung cancers always tend to live in crowded cities with high amounts of air pollution or worked in a dangerous occupation. Think of it this way: smokers put those cigarettes to their lips and inhale deeply some 20 times a day for usually more than 50 years before it kills them. You think walking through a smokey room once week is going to kill you?

So let me get this straight...

By your logic, if you invite me over to your house, I have the right to ban smoking in your home.

Think about it.

Who a business caters to is THEIR business, not yours.

This is a private property issue, not a health issue. That ETS is dangerous is a matter for debate. That ETS is readily apparent and avoidable is not. If you don;t like smoking, don't go to businesses that allow it.
