Some good friends of mine just asked me to go for at trekking trip to Nepal for around two weeks in early October.

I will be flying out of HK so it won't be that far of a journey.

Is it worth going there?

Thanks for any inputs.

there was a guy who went to Nepal and posted a lot of pics in the camera forum. dont recall his name though. IIRC, he went hiking thru the Himalayas

Saw a "Locked up Abroad" where some guys vacationing in HK tried sneaking gold into Nepal for some smugglers and ended up in NPMITAP for 8-9 months. So don't do that.

That trip would be a blast though. I've personally always wanted to trek the Annapurna Circuit.

At the school i go to (loras college), we have a ton of Nepalese kids that are brought here to create "diversity". For the most part all of them say its very beautiful and a great place to live.

But, they've been talking about some of the problems there recently like a food shortage in some places. Regardless, I would like to go sometime with one of the guys and get a tour of the country.

my sister has been to nepal twice in the last ten years, she has traveled just about everywhere in the world and really likes Nepal.

I knew a guy in college from Nepal. He came to our house one day very very excited - they had added a new airport that was closer to his house, so now it would be only a 2 day walk to his house instead of 5. 🙂 This was 20 years ago though.

A friend of mine was stationed there in the Peace Corps...She very much enjoyed being over there with the peeps...but she's very outdoorsy. 3rd world in the country.

Dumb idiot doesn't know how to eat rice. You're not supposed to mix all the items served to you at once into the rice. Each dish has to be separately consumed along with the rice.

Diarrhea is pretty inevitable by the way he eat the food.

I've been there for a extended period of time, and if you are going on a trek I don't see why wouldn't want to go. Nepal deff has some major issues going on..their economy is horrible, they can barely produce enough power for their population, and the government is very unstable. But, if you are going there for a trek, these things will not make a great impact on you, and you will be able to experience what are you are going there for. Great mountains, great nature, extremely nice people out in the country side, and so forth. I was up in the mountains only for a short time, and I didn't go on a very high trek, but it was very peaceful and I would recommend it.

Go for it.

You don't 'hike' through the Himalayas, my friend. You climb them. There is a difference. I suggest you familiarize yourself with them.
