I'll be traveling to Dublin next week for work and then taking a few days afterward for myself. I'm curious if anyone has recommendations on places to see, stay, eat, etc. I'll be by the airport during the week and will have a rental car, and will probably move down s/sw of the city centre on the weekend as I couldnt find many other affordable places. I will probably keep the rental car since I'll be outside the "downtown" area, so that opens up trips to other parts of the island- though I doubt I'll be driving up to Belfast or down to Cork during my short stay.

So, what have people enjoyed there and how can I best spend a few days.

The Guinness tour gave me a much better appreciation for the beer, which I had always found to be overrated (I'm told it tastes better there which could also be why). I've heard the Jameson tour is good and you can even get a few free shots out of it.

edit: as for affordability.. not possible in Dublin. I got a closet of a hotel room for 70 euro, even the hostels were 25-30 euro at least.

also depending on what "a few days" is you might want to head up to Belfast.. lots of interesting history there if you're into politics.

A few days is about 3, it really depends on when I finish up my work and get to head out. As for affordablity, the places I was looking at were in the $75-90 USD/night range, which is fine, its just 10-15km outside the heart of the city. I'd prefer to stay in and around Dublin, given my limited time, but if there is something really cool to see, I'm not averse to a little traveling.

Cork's only a 3 hour trip, though it's a bit miserable this time of year..

How many days in Dublin altogether? You can rent a cheap flat for about 390 Euro a week, that's about a 10-minute walk from the Green. Rentals are from Saturday-Saturday... so i guess it depends on when you land/leave.

Its about a week altogether, but Mon~Thurs I'll be staying at the airport and working there. Sometime on Thurs I plan on finishing up and enjoying myself through Sunday morning.
