Anyone ever been to a Monster Jam event? (Monster Trucks etc)

I'm thinking about taking my son, since he's into Monster Trucks at the moment, but am curious what a show consists of.

Just wondering what I'm in for, should I decide to do this.

I'm looking at the website, but it doesn't really say what a show consists of.

Any insight would be helpful.

Thanks.

Monster trucks launching jumping off of a dirt berm, slowing down and turning 180 degrees then driving over some crushed cars. Repeat for several sets. Probably some atv's or dirtbikes too.

Decent fun for not too much money. You're son will love it, you'll a least be entertained.

- waiting 10minutes to see a truck go for 30 seconds.
- loud thinking hadicapped people (rednecks)
- Loud anouncers
- beer
- beauty handicapped ladies (redneck women)
- Usually some dirt bikes or dare devil type acts
- Loud trucks
- Possibly some band may perform at intermission usually a local one

All in all a fun time. You might not be a huge fan but if hes old enough he will probably have a great time. Get him a t-shirt while your there so you blend in with the locals.

Yeah, it's a lot of fun. I went to one about 10 years ago. Make sure you bring ear plugs because in a closed arena those trucks can be VERY loud.

OP: Your results will vary based on the venue you attend.

If it is a big arena/stadium, you will see some high-flying trucks as they smash a bunch of cars, etc. On the other hand, if it is a small arena, the trucks don't have the room to do much.

Your profile says you are in Detroit, so you may be i n more luck than when I went to Baltimore for a show. I >>think<< I have seen Detroit "highlights" on the Monster Jam tv show a few times. Assuming I am correct, the trucks actually get to run a race course with jumps. Baltimore did not have the room to do it.

Bring ear plugs for the two of you and have a blast! One of the few times you have an excuse to go to an activity like this, might as well enjoy it.

Check for Pit Passes!! Nothing like taking the little guy up to "Gravedigger" and having a chat with Dennis Anderson and the rest of the guys. The Pit Passes are usually free and the drivers and mechanics are great with the kids.

Go for it will be one of the best times you and your kids will ever have. And go early so you can get up and personal with the trucks and some of the drivers.
I used to go to them as a teen back up in IL at almost every event. Got to see Denis Anderson in Grave Digger, back when he was not so well known. He wont the trucking event and I stood by the gate they walked through. The guy he was racing I shot out and asked if I could take his picture and he just gave me a dirty look, then Denis came through right after, I asked again for his picture and he stopped, Gave me one hell of a smile and thumbs up. Best picture in my collection, and a great guy for taking out the 2 seconds to do so for a 18 year old on the side line.

But I also use to go to them back when I was much younger and my father would take me. It was just pure bliss, monster American full blown motors screaming, the exhaust smell, and to watch them jump, tractor pull, mudding, or racing was the best time of my life. Sure it took a bit for them to line up and 20 seconds later it was over, by my god, just to see that huge truck go from 0-60 in 4 seconds doing wheelies, jumping, flipping over, WHO wouldnt like that? Well other then the mass tree huggers who ride their bikes everywhere.

Just go, brink the kids some sort of ear protection, lots of film or memcards, and a camera that can take many shots at once to catch the action.
