Anyone been to a computer show? Well, not exactly a computer show, they called computer show, but it's actually a group of computer dealers, wholesalers, distributors and retailers having a computer sales.
For more info., here
Super Computer Show

If you been one, do you think it worths to go check it out? and how was it?

btw: Computer Show @ Bayside expo in Boston from Feb28th till March 2nd. 9 dollars admission fee and kids under 12 is free.

Not worth it. Most of the time you have to pay an admission fee and the prices are no better than if you bought it online.

I agree. It's a ripoff. Pay to park, pay to get in, crappy parts with no one to contact for a refund.

Every two months, I goto ACP computer swapmeet here in Southern Cali. You find some interesting things and some some good deals. I heard the bigger venues has better prices, but there is entrance fee and sometimes parking.

Its worth going once.

Yep. You can do MUCH better online.

Went to the Blue Star show at the IX Center in Cleveland two years ago. Prices sucked, merchandise looked like refurbed garbage. Basically not worth it. You can find better prices online.

Online is probably the best place to buy most stuff, but my computer shows have some nice used 21" monitors under $200 - too bad i don't have the desk space 🙁.

I go to one every so often. You can find good deals on insignificant parts, but they often have very cheap quality parts and stuff. And there are lots of fly-by-night outfits that go there to scam people. Still, I bought a few mobos, a router, a monitor, some video cards, some CPus and some sound cards from comp shows. Going to one next weekend in fact.

I have been to this exact "Super Computer Show" and it sucked. When I can get stuff for cheaper on Ebay, you know it is a waste of time.....🙂

Me too. This show sucks, horribly. Their selection is crap and the prices are terrible.

Used to work at one. It's a great place to go if you know a reliable dealer there. That's how I got started. Ordering stuff over the internet may be slightly cheaper, but you are always buying from a stranger and if something is bad, you have to ship it back (costing you more money). I don't buy much over the internet because it's so unreliable.

My friend has this thing about buying all of his parts at a computer 'show'. Half the stuff he got he found out was broken when he got back home to try it out, but he still goes back for more ... I don't understand it. You can get much better deals online, and somewhere to turn to if you have problems. The majority of the stuff that the shows is crap, anyways.

There are a couple here in PA (MarketPro and Peter Trapp) and they are a waste. $5.00 to get in, plus travel and you have to pay state sales tax. No real deals unless you are looking for som pr0n CDs or something...😉

haha, wait until you buy a couple crap items. That money you saved will dissapear fast. A friend of mine used to order mobo's and CPU's off ebay and got some great deals for awhile. Then he got a couple bad CPU's and ended up having to buy a new one again costing more money. That savings disappears fast.

Yes, I agree. And guess what?

*What, Mike?*

About a year ago, I posted this same thread and it was Oldsmoboat that told ME the above. Me, being the adventuresome, independent sort, didn't believe him, so I went to the show. And....

1. I paid to park
2. I paid to get in
3. I saw crappy parts that were 5 years old, at least
4. I got the same statement from every vendor:

When you leave this building, the warranty expires.

Don't waste your time unless you are looking for a PCI video card for your Uncle Milton's PII 166.

I go to this one

Most of its junky refurb but for $7 its something to do on a sunday.

Sometimes you can find a rare old part that you need but... generaly not.

Most of the venders that I shop at have a B&M store within 1 hour.

I will usualy only buy dirt cheap ram its about the same price online but you never know if it works.

I certainly am not advocating buying from Ebay either because their prices are crap too. I am just saying that computer shows prices are even crappier. You can do much better at a reliable vendor like Newegg or TWCO.....

Didn't believe me? :Q For shame. 😉

Been going to shows for 8 years+. Super Computer has crappy shows - the good ones are put on by National Productions in S California - Pomona is their biggest show. It used to be huge about 3-4 years ago, but has been getting smaller and smaller. Don't know if it will even be around 5 years from now.

Really? The computer show I worked at, you had normal warrantees and such. The place I worked at, we had regular customers and such and we dealt with all new parts. No refurbs exept for some printers once, but they were clearly labeled.

Like everyone else says -they pretty much suck, HOWEVER....😉

I've picked up some decent refurbed/used monitors for DIRTY cheap. I upgraded my parents to a 17" flat screen CRT for $50 last time Blue star was in town. I've also picked up a case or two to save on shipping (plus you get to physically see it)

As far as quality new stuff? don't bother.

I've bought 95% of my hardware over the 'net and never had a problem. The key is knowing who to trust, and knowing how to judge whether someone is trustworthy or not.

Oh, yeah..suuuuuure; there's a warranty. When I asked the dealer where his shop was, I got a "well, I don't have a shop, per se; I deal over the internet."

So I asked, "what's your site's URL?" Igot "Well, I don't really have a site, per se: it's more word-of-mouth..."

I ran away...quickly.

I've gone to First Saturday in Dallas a lot. Never buy anything, but it's fun to get the sausage on a stick & feel bloated for the rest of the day😀

It's sort of fun to hear someone on a loudspeaker announcing specials on AMD processors for the next 15 min...
