has anyone been successful in converting an 80 pin lvd scsi drives to 68 pin controller? are you able to get the "80" scsi initialization with your setup or are you still at "40" . i have a fujitsu mag3182lc and a adaptec 29160. i can only get my compouter to recognize my hd at 40mb/s. wheres a good place to get the lvd cable and converter? please enlighten me!

Make sure that the drive doesn't have the "single-ended" jumper on if it has one(i don't remember if sca drives have em or not).

derekb77 did you fix the problem? After reading your post and checked my bios screen and there it was... xfer ratr=40.0mb/sec. As far as I can tell I am configured correctly. All the settings for the drive and adapter are set at 80mb in the bios.

I got a Compaq 64-bit dual channel that handled 80mb/sec no problem. If you're having difficulty, it could be a driver problem. As the others also stated, you gotta have the correct adapter too. A lot of places sell single-ended as LVD, but they aren't.

BT7990-I have another box with a Tekram that shows on boot the incorrect rate, but will show the correct xfer rate on a reboot. Don't know if it's a peculiarity of the controller, but it might be what yours is doing.

Thanks slurp. I checked, either warm or cold boot it still reads 40. Gonna call Hyper Micro on Monday and see. I ckecked out Cablemakers website and their adapter is $10 more, but looks exactly like mine. Maybe mine really does not support 80MB/sec. Also going to drive jumpers to see if I missed anything.

yes i did fix my problem. i used one of the adapters from this website:

http://www.corpsys.com/store/prodinfo.asp?number=SCA2LVD&variation=&aitem=8&mitem=9

and i used an lvd cable. the first cable that i had was a scsi-3 cable which didnt work and thats where the problem was. after i changed the cable my drive initialized at 80mb/s like it was supposed to. other cable i used which was regular scsi cable also only worked at 40. my suggestion is to just try different cable till you get it to initialize at 80. and make sure your drive and scsi controller support 80 as well. ceck the specs at the website. also if you do use a converter, i found that the one i used above was pretty reasonably priced and works pretty good. if youre in the sf bay area there is a store on lawrence expressway in sunnyvale that sells them. i think its called disk drive depot. peace!
