Anyone been bit by a spider?

A few days ago I noticed a bump on my right arm. It didn't really bother me so I just assumed it would go away on its own. Fast forward to today (friday). My arm has swollen some, and the redness is now a circle about 2" in diameter. It hurts if I brush up against anything with it, but I don't have a fever or anything.

The only reason I think its a spider bite is because a few people at work suggested that. Since my family doctor is closed, and the emergency room would cost an arm and a leg, should I go, or should I wait until tomorrow and see if it improves?

If it didn't kill you in the first 24 hours you are fine, it's probably infected.

if this is the case, will the infection go away on its own?

you can probably wait a day or two
but I've seen cases where it's gotten A LOT worse than that before it got better, and they needed hospitalization.

if your doc doesn't open up and things get worse, I would definitely recommend a trip to the ER

Yeah, did not kill me yet! 😀

it was more than 20 years ago man...

I was bitten by one once; I don't know what kind got me. The bite started out small, but over the next 24-48 hours it got a large purplish circle around it. I don't remember it hurting much, but it seems like it itched a lot. A few days later, the skin began peeling like a sunburn in that general area. It didn't even leave a scar.

yeah heaps of times....mainly redback spiders, part of the curse of living in the outback of Australia and working on older cars.

You'll be fine, I got bit by a spider just the other day on my left arm. Its almost all the way healed up now.

You pvssy

MAN UP! :disgust:

is there anything medical science can do for spider bites, tho? is it really understood what happens when you get skin necrosis (rotting away) from a spider bite? You might be screwed. some people have to get large chunks of skin cut out of them, just to stop the rot from spreading to the point you need an amputation.

I would start taking multivitamins, vitamin c, etc. to boost my immune system, and hope for the best.

Your fine for now, but if it starts turning black/oozing sh!t/smelling like dead fish (or just smelling like sh!t in general) or gets considerably larger in the next 12-24 hours, call a frickin ambulance. Necrotizing faciitis (sp?) occurs when the same bacteria that causes strep throat gets under the skin and doesn't get killed off immediately. In less than 6 hours (3-4 for an arm), it can take a whole limb. Google it if you want to see the results of people who waited too long. About Jmman's pics x 10

Note: I'm no doctor, but I did an intensive (20 page) biology report on it last year.

Don't be scared or panic. It's really nothing. Same ****** happened to me. Just take over the counter claritin and it will go away. You're allergic to spider bites like most people so dont worry. Claritin is your answer!
