I just beat on veteran and thought some the hardest parts from the first time weren't all that hard this time through.
I thought about playing it through on realistic. But how hard would that be?

I remember the first time on (what default is), and it took me forever. It was when I was first getting in to computer games and I sucked.

Man, just remembing the good ol' times.

I beat it on every level including Realistic. If you want some suggestions:

1) divide & conquer. Don't wade in, tease them into coming after you and pick them off in small numbers.

2) in some places, instead of reloading a weapon, just cycle to the next one and resume firing, it's faster.

The hardest single part for me was very near the end where I'm in the long hallway with nowhere to retreat to.

One other difference I noticed on Realistic was that when you're the gunner in the Hummer that Val is driving, you get less ammunition. Fortunately, you can throw grenades to take out some would-be pursuers in their Hummers.

I beat it on realistic. There isn't that much difference in the difficulty levels in that game. Even easy is pretty hard.

Once you beat it once, beating it on harder difficulty levels is pretty easy. You know the ai, you know how to deal with the big mutants.

I did!

First time through=beginners.
2nd time=Veteran
3rd time=Realistic

I'll probably go back to do the 2 lower levels I skipped.

Realistic was HARD.

There are fewer mercs in most scenes, but they are highly accurate shots, and your shots have to be accurate too or else they don't go down.

Mostly mercs are in same places as in lower levels, but a few scenes they're in different places. I learned to use boat guns to the max anytime you're in a boat, instead of stalking by land. That Volcano level was my biggest challenge.

Next from same company: CRYSIS

yeah, in most cases that means much harder (although much lazier on the part of the AI programmers). Bots that can headshot you 100% of the time but are dumb as hell are far more dangerous that bots that miss you entirely 90% of the time but know good squad tactics and what not. Although having smarter and more accurate AI would definitely be something that wouldn't be quite so fun.
