Anyone actually use Raid 0

and i set the stripe size to 16 if i am not mistaken...

unless you work with large files...you should set the stripe size reasonably small

I have used RAID 0 a bunch with IDE and SCSI. what is the computer main use? internet? database server? wed server? it's safe to say use the defualt (64k cluster) and everybodys happy.

NP dude. the defualt is 64 and if your not using it as a DB server, don't bother with anything lower than 64k.

Monoman, I (will have) 5 10k 18 gig SCSI drives that I will be putting in raid0. Primary purpose of this rig is gaming, with a little bit of video (very small) and I touch up pictures for my digital camera once in a while. What stripe size would you recommend ? The Adaptec card I had (that sucked in benches) defaulted to 128, and didn;t like it when I changed it.

I have my raptors set at 64k stripe, I originally had it set at 128k stripe, better for video editing and large files.
I like the 64k stripe better, it seems more responsive. I have this set on the Intel ICHr5 controller on my Gigabyte board.
I have Silicon graphics raid also, the Intel raid seems a bit faster.
I would recomend a 64k stripe as it will fit the needs of most of your duties.
And yes it's fast, especially in bootup and load times.

your HBA didn't like it or your OS or you when you changed it? lol. 64k is IMO the standard for simple RAID 0 setups I am sure ShuttleTeam can comment on this but from my experience with 2x 18gig 10k scsi in RAID 0 they purred nicely with 64k cluster for everyday usage. the smaller the cluster size the slower it gets but for DB work it makes more sence for a 2k piece of date to use 16k of HDD space rather than 64k worth.

For everyday usage stick with 64k. and I say you bough that MegaRAID Elite hba... nice would like to know how well it functions.

How did you know I got that megaraid 1650 monoman ? Yes I did. But I don't have it yet, or all the drives. (only two of 5)

I read it in another thread.... I was jealous of the price you snagged it at. I still have my RAID card with 64megs of ram but it's not in service. the DUAL XEON 450 it was in went down for the count.... so I havn't fooled with it in a while. and btw, the Adaptec 2100S is good for data redundancy, not preformance. I found that our with 2 15k drives and ZERO performance boost

I booted up to windows xp with a ide hd but I can't see my sata raid hd's in my computer.........I wanted to use windows to change the cluster size...

16 K stripe size since it feels faster and 32 K cluster for better performance but at a cost of wasted space.

EDIT: I used PartitionMagic to change cluster size.
