Meh, its banned in other countries. I'm glad its out, but it never kept me from eating there to begin with.

Same here, the Quiznos that is across the street from my office went out of business 2 months ago. I talked to the owner a few times over the years and always bitched at how much Quiznos corporate gouged the stores. The stores has to buy EVERYTHING from corporate inclung light bulbs and windex. Now my choices within walking distance is subway and a local joint. Local joint had amazing Italian subs but it's almost 12 bucks with a drink and chips. Subway is half that.

Not all Subways are created equal. Most of the Subways I've been to in California are pretty good as far as produce quality. However, I was on a road trip and stopped at one in West Texas... this was a mistake.

Footlong Veggie Delite is pretty filling, tasty, and a decent value for fast food, especially if you are a vegan and looking for something to eat while traveling through areas with not a lot of alternatives. Run it through the garden, as Sebastian Maniscalco says (see Netflix special if you don't get the reference...). 😀

I actually like Subway but we don't have any other sub/deli shops in town. There is an independent sandwich/sub shop about 10 miles away (vs. 1.6 miles for Subway) but their meats and buns are even cheaper than Subway's. They only have white and wheat buns.

We had Quiznos in town but it folded. I'm not really crazy about Quiznos, anyway. Went there a few times and got something different each time, nothing that I would go back for. But then if I were still a meat and beef lover, I'd probably have found something there to go back for. Trying to eat healthier these days....

I like Subway, on occasion. The bread is only adequate and the meats and cheeses are sliced paper thin and portioned out in tiny amounts. It's the veggie selection that make the sandwiches worthwhile. I always get double meat and load it up with a ton of raw vegetables. The cheese is sliced so thin and is so meager that if you ordered quadruple cheese, I still don't think you could taste it, so isn't worth bothering with extra.

As to other sub shops, the one I get the biggest kick out of is Jimmy Johns. If you were to take an inventory of food items they stock in a store, I doubt that it would exceed a count of thirty, including the different chips and the soda syrups. They have _one_ type of cheese: provolone. Imagine opening a sandwich or sub shop that isn't a franchise and offering exactly one type of cheese... you'd be laughed out of business. They offer virtually no veggies beyond lettuce, tomato, onion and optional peppers. Still, they're inexpensive, they have pretty good bread and they're fresh. You can do worse.

+1 Schlotzskysis awesome! I would buy a large which is two sandwiches and pig out.

Quiznos is alright. I liked them when I first went there. We still have a Quiznos in town but the damn schlotzskys went belly up and now it's a Starbucks which makes like the 7th Starbucks. If I want schlotzskys I have to go 8 miles north of me.

I go to Subway on occasion but they get old. I guess they now have a Pastrami melt which I'd like to try.

Apparently the Subway sub bread have a chemical in them that is used in rubber products but I don't know if that's actually true. Probably a conspiracy by the gluten free evangelists.

I signed a petition to get rid of that crap. Same with Gatorade that has fire repellent in it.

theres still a lawsuit against quiznos by their franchise owners regarding that issue. Something like 80% of quiznos have gone out of business.

It's pretty crappy now, has become the mcd of sandwhich shops. I knew things were going bad when I walked into a newly opened one a couple years ago and the had an actual scale on the counter to measure out the meat. Now on the rare occasion I go into one it's progressed into having meat stacked in little cardboard dispensers giving about half of what they used to.

The Schlotskys around here all closed. I thought they were dumb because the store was a big tease. Half of Schlotskys decor was giant cans of jalapeños...so I'm thinking, "I'll get an awesome spicy sandwich!" Then I look at the menu...404 Spicy Not Found. Then I order thinking someone will ask me if I want jalapeños or they will be available as a condiment....nope. So I eat my non-spicy sandwich and leave Schlotzskys unsatisfied.

I just have them scoop out the bread, get some ham and load up on all the veggies, and I have some hot sauce at the office that I use.

Cheap, filling, tastes good, and well under 500 calories.

What you're noticing is the phenomena of people responding to their interests. OP asked if people like subway, chances are people who like subway are going to respond.

I like Subway because for $5 it's hard to find another restaurant that beats it, especially as I work out in the country and the choices are pretty slim to begin with.

I thought that might be the case. If the direction of the thread goes toward "subway sucks" then people who don't like subway will chime in. But people who DO like subway will abstain, unless they are a man of true, genuine character. Then they will charge through the pack of wolves, and battle their way to the center and declare the truth, which is, of course, "subway is good".

Subway is a good sandwich for cheap...the meats are a bit sub-par but for the price ok. Down here Publix subs (and local delis) are far better, but you are paying close to double in price.

I have never been to a subway that sliced the meat and cheese nor have they used anything but a scoop for their tuna/chicken/etc salads.

Most of the larger subways here have all the portions of the salads on paper trays so no scooping is needed during lunch rush.

There are a lot of better options around here, but none are as cheap.

Subway makes a great substitute for lunch in a hurry vs Taco Bell or a burger place. If I have a decent amount of time I usually go to table service and not fast food.

The bread may be baked fresh, but it's not REAL sub shop bread. It's got a totally different consistency and is virtually flavorless. The meat and cheese are cheap. The price is right for what you get though. The better sub places around here charge about $10 for a similarly sized sandwich. If you want quality, it costs about $3-4 more per large sandwich....but if I eat half of a large sandwich from a local sub shop, it will fill me up...whereas it takes a footlong Subway sandwich for me to feel satisfied.

I believe its called 'confirmation bias.' I notice it too.

ontopic: nothing wrong with Subway. As long as you know what to expect. Of course there's better options, but not always available. We drove back from FL a few weeks ago, its either Subway, or McD's/Wendy's/Burger King/Taco Bell. I don't really need diarrhea on a 10 hour drive, so Subway wins easily.

Yeah, the corporate office made a lot of bad decisions. They didn't train or support their franchisees, and then charged the hell out of them for everything from cheese to toilet paper. Then they went after the few stores that managed to succeed despite their efforts in high profile, high traffic areas in an attempt to take the stores and turn them into corporate stores. They sued several of the owners to that end.
