Anyone able to backup Warcraft 3 successfully?

I want to make a backup of my Warcraft 3 cd. I have the Lite-On LTR-24102B (firmware 5S54) as well and a Hitachi DVD-rom player and I cannot get Warcraft 3 to burn correctly! I made a good "RAW" image of it though by unselecting read sub audio data as someone suggested and tried it with Daemon tool 3.16 and the image works perfectly.

However, when I burn the image with Clonecd 4.0.1.10 it is still not recognized in either my lite on or my hitachi drives =(. I've read through all of the Warcraft 3 posts and have taken all the advice such as using Hide-CDR to play the disc but nothing has worked. I have also burned the game at 24x and 4x and even tried different media to see if I could get a 1:1 copy to no avail. So far I have burned 5 coasters and am wondering if there's something wrong with my burner? Or maybe I should try a different program called CD Mate? Please help me out (yes, I even used the FAQ settings given by Bulk on the clonecd.de forums)

I was able to do it with my 24x Lite-On. I used CloneCD 4.0.1.10 just like you did, but I also read in the both the data and audio subchannels. I also read the image at 8x, but that probably doesn't make much of a difference. When I burned the image I also checked the don't repair subchannel data option.

I copied it with a Lite-On reader and writer with whatever the default clonecd 4 settings are. I haven't installed from it though .. just using it to take the place of my real cd when I have to start a game.

remember, no matter how u copy it.. you will need a no cd crack..

since the wc3 key is protected.

what a copy of a game does is, allow you to install it but if you want to play you will need to crack the game's exe..

thats all i can think of.. hope that helps

I had trouble making a backup too, but I was eventually able to make one.

I was unable to get CloneCD to work at all.

I was successfull using the Plextor DiscDupe 2000 copy program, which I believe uses the Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4 program.

As I discovered, it matters how good your hardware is.

I have a PlexWriter 16/10/40 and a generic 52X cd player.

Thinking I would get better results with my "bitchen" PlexWriter, I initially used the PlexWriter to both read and write the War III cd.

However, no matter what I did the PlexWriter would fail somewhere in the process.

When I copied the original War III cd from my generic CD player to the PlexWriter it copied just fine.

Strange that my PlexWriter cannot fully read the War III cd, but it can copy it.

Seems my bitchen PlexWriter is not so bitchen after all.

Hardware does matter, burn from the other writer and see what happens...

Hope this info helps. Good luck!

No, it's possible to play War III off of a burned CD with no crack. As long as you make a 1:1 copy with CloneCD and the correct burner, War III won't know see any difference from the original CD. To play on Battle.net, though, you'll need a valid CD key. Since this is a backup though, that shouldn't be a problem. :)

I must also clarify that my PlexWriter is unable to read the copy of War III that it wrote.

I must use my generic CD reader to use/play/install-from my backup copy...
