its a bigass ring, i threw it on my digital scales and this is what it weighs:

9.1g
5.9dwt

and it's solid black hills gold... any ball park range of what it's worth? and what the best way to go about selling it would be?

Selling your stuff to buy your snuff, eh? Didn't you ever get help? The last thing I remember reading was you got busted "not buying or selling" pills in front of your job. You're obviously not in jail. Let me guess; you went to a week-long "kick the habit" seminar and you get probation. Now you're selling your stuff for snuff. And your wife hasn't left you yet?

I'm gonna take a guess and say it's worth about as much as your opinion is on this forum

Ten grams of gold? 14 karat crap gold? I'd give you £5 for it but i don't know what i'd do with it.

You do realize that karats do not work like percentages, right, and that 14 karats is pretty fucking far from 18 and FAR from the 24 that makes it pure? (difference is that in Europe you can't call anything less than 18 karat gold and pure gold is pure gold anywhere).

Maybe if there is some historical value to the ring, otherwise... nah.

By weight it's $275 at current market. But such costume jewelery isn't necessary going to command that much given the expense in seperating the more valuable commodity, especially at a pawn broker who knows you are desperate for drug money. Maybe you can get a $100 for it. Enjoy.

10/24 * 9.1g = 3.7856g

3.7856 * $27/g = $102, if it was refined to 24k

Now unless the ring has some sort of history or something, it's probably only worth the metal value... minus refining cost? so near zero? :p

Oops, I shat the figurative bed in my drunken stupor. Yeah, $100 at best. But in practical terms much less.

Refining cost is usually twice the material cost, even when dealing with gold or platinum and especially when dealing with smaller diamonds.

However, purity is not as linear as you make it out to be, it's expressed exponentially until full purity is reached, that is, 18K isn't just 4 points higher on a linear scale compared to 14K, it's almost twice as pure.

It's by percentage.

Christ, no, it's by purity, just like diamonds and platinum.

I am not getting your joke...

edit: you beat me to it.

Ayup, we are both actually right, it's by purity but it is linear.
