The wife and I had a '99 d'Yquem tonight, and wow was it good. I've had d'Yquem a few times in the past, but the expense alone makes it something that I don't drink on a regular basis.

I only wish dessert wines weren't so expensive. We drink a lot of German Riesling Eiswein, but even then it's still considerably expensive for the volume you get, and reasonably so. Canadian Ice Wines aren't much of a bargain either, but they're delicious. I'd drink a good Sauternes or Trockenbeerenauslese everyday if I could.

Any other dessert wine fans? Any favorites?

I don't like dessert wines at all.

I prefer a nice dry wine, good reds, etc. I'm not a huge fan of white wines either.

I think you guys are missing out :D Have you had Sauternes? It's not a sweet wine (usually), but what about a Gewurtztraminer? Even Amarone can sometimes have the qualities of a sweet wine.

I wouldn't have a sweet wine for casual drinking like I could a normal dry wine, but by themselves (in small quantities) I think they're something to behold. Perhaps I've just had too much sweet wine tonight.

I had the opportunity to take a winery tour at Inniskillin, who produce ice wine in the Niagara region. Wonderful stuff. :)

I really need to read up on wine. Not having touched alcohol for the first 21 years of my life I'm a little behind, and it seems interesting enough. Maybe I'll start listening to a podcast about wine.

Yeah, that region is producing some really good ice wines. Magnotta in particular is readily available and very good.

If you ever want some ideas for resources (books, sites, wineries, etc.) to get you started, PM me.
