Friend of mine just bought half a dozen Proxim AP's (either 600s or 700s) of these off of E-bay, and intends to use them for his cafe'. A bit dated, but they are G-capable and I volunteered to help set them up provided I get all the expresso's I can drink for a length of time.
Now I can see why people tend to hate Proxim. When I plugged one of them and ran Proxim's serch tool it found it, but had the old set-up info for what ever company had them prior. Real, smart move on behalf of their IT staff given somebody ambitious can reverse engineer their access passwords and go from there. However, I don't have the write password so I can't make any changes to the AP.
So, I try the reset button because this re-loads factory defaults on pretty much any other Wi-Fi unit on the market. Nope, makes the Proxim blink, but the old company data still shows up. I try the reload button, and now the AP doesn't show up at all on their search tool. Given it wasn't in the same IP range as my PC before, why does it make a difference now? Grrrr...
Proxim's tech docs indicate the AP "should" show up in the search tool after a reset, but also indicates I might have to go through an irritating procedure of reloading the firmware.
Anybody work with these gadgets before and can give me some tips?
