I have a friend who is considering working for Raytheon and she would like to know how it is working for them, ie, benefits, work atmosphere, etc. Please provide any input, thanks

I work with a partner of theirs. The rumor is that they are great to work for. Strong company and suppose to be pretty good to employees. Also nailed some big contracts recently. -TAL

EDIT: ACKKK!! After reading below, maybe you should ignore my ignorant comments.

My friend works in Raytheon here in Tucson, AZ and I'm not too sure if you know, but currently Raytheon is being investigated for "unusual" accounting methods practices. So far about 1000 people have been layed off here in Tucson.

Here is some good reading for you.

not sure if this is true but I know this guy and his girlfriend is supposedly the grand daughter of the owner of Raytheon.

OMG............. I worked for raytheon for more then a year in college, it suckssssss sooo bad, everything goes soooo slowly, they give you like 2 days worth of work and give you goddamn 2 months to do it. everybody who works there is sub-par, my manager was a toolbox and the genral intelligence of the people who work that was laughable. It really sucks! i would highly reccomend something else if she can fin something else. but since people complain about the current job market she might have to take it just for the paycheck. they did paywell though.

benefits for fulltimes seemed pretty sucky to me also.

Absolutely take it. I would die for a job at Raytheon.
Unfortunately, they didnt respond to my resume :(

My friend is taking a job there in a few weeks. Already has a security clearance and is all ready to go.

One of my best bud works for Raytheon. Although he is still in Cali, we talk two to three times a month and we talk about our work.
We compare my company (Boeing) against his. Based on our conversations, He likes working for Raytheon, he likes working on F-18
Radar and weapon systems, he makes 60K+ with excellent benefits, including paid tuition/books for college, which is similar benefits
as my company, except we don't have to pay for the medical and dental whereas he chips in small amount per payday.

My friend interned for them last summer. He said he had a blast there, everyone was smart and he had an interesting project to work on. Most of the managers there drove sports cars too
This is in MD

A friend of mine works for Raytheon. He likes it pretty well.
I've worked with them on some stuff, and their part of it was top notch and ahead of schedule.

WRT Ameesh's comments ... take it with a grain of salt, unless your friend is going to work in the same group. In a company as big as Raytheon, you'll find good and bad. She needs to find out what her specific group is like. One of my favorite interview questions is "What will I be doing the week I start. In detail." and work from there. Ignoring the administrivia that accompanies starting a new job of course.

My father used to work on Mavericks for them....

He liked the work environment, but most of the work was really automated. It's a good company for benefits, but my father got dropped as soon as they were no longer producing as many weapons....(mid 90s)

Actually, my Visual Basic instructor works (or worked) for them. They sound like a great company. They have a larger presence in my area (Northern Virginia.) I'll be checking them out shortly. ;)
