Got a letter from the last bank I applied to -- apparently they didn't like my experience enough. There's not a whole lot in this area..Wal-Mart (no thanks), Staples (not hiring), & Home Depot come to mind. I'm going to try a few more banks..but does anyone here work for HD? If so, do you like it - how's pay/etc?

Home Despot's pay was decent but not great. Job security was very poor. Fairly political atmosphere too... I'd look elsewhere if I were you.

Poor Job Security? From what my mom tells me its more like people get fed up a leave. Go for a cashier position.

Fixed.

Have worked at Wal-Mart, Harris teeter, autozone, adavnce, jiffy lube, sears, papa johns, etc... and what you said can apply to all of them in some manner.

I worked at HD twice, for about six-eight months each time. Lifers are bulletproof. The rest of you- ie anyone who hired on at this store and hasn't been there five years- can get laid off with no warning (in my case, I was loading an order onto a cart, a manager wandered over and called me, I was escorted out the front door five minutes later- no problem with my work, just a slow month, sorry, GTFO). Other retail places I've served time in have been less willing/eager to can people than that.

I find it's the exact opposite. They'll refuse to fire anyone, it's just that they won't give you any hours on the schedule. I know a lot of part-timers that are getting between 0-8 hours a week. Almost no part-timers are getting more hours than that. And this is in the busier departments, like Electrical and Gardening.

Pay is pretty damn good as far as retail goes. Cashiers get paid the least, Sales Associates get more, Special Services get paid the most (as far as generic workers go, not talking about DHs or Managers).

The problem is, you're not going to get hired right now. Across the country, it looks like Home Depot has a hiring freeze going on.

As far as pay/benefits, look on the HD website. Employees are not supposed to tell anything outside of what you can see on the website.

The HD here is relatively new..only a few years old - there are tons of job postings online. If there's a nationwide freeze, something is messed up.

What do you have going for you? HS? Assoc? BS?

11 hours shy of an AA in Criminology..I have an application pending at a police department, but I need employment as soon as possible (truck payment, insurance, etc).

The closest Target is well over an hour away..

I am trying to look elsewhere - not many options here, though (Littleton/Whitefield/Lancaster NH).

I'll probably just go down the line and try every bank I can (I have 3+yrs in cash handling/cust. service).
