Those new rules SUCK. They really killed the show, although I admit when I heard about the changes, I thought they would be good.

J-Rich's final dunk was AWESOME. Oh MY!

Finally, I get to say,
Warriors win!

Maybe there is hope :p

I think the first one was of choice, 2nd was with a teammate, and last one was from a wheel of possible choices. The wheel has a selection of famous dunks from the past. Some were in time categories, like the 70's or 80's, while others were like Dr. J, His Airness (MJ), and the Human Highlight Film (Dominique).

So on the first one, you could do whatever you wanted. 2nd was like a teammate has to pass to you (J-Rich had a great one on this, but he missed it). On the third one, you have to emulate whatever you get.

3rd one really screwed everyone cause a guy might not necessarily have the physical ability to do something, like palm a ball. Ex. Steve Francis had to do a Statue of Liberty (thats like a slow 360 from kind of close to the free throw line while having the ball palmed and outstretched the whole time).

Sorry for the post, I thought this was a "drunk" contest :D

Seriously, I watched some of it, but I thought the 3 point shootout at the beginning was more interesting to watch.

You should tell that to Air Canada and Kobe then. It'd be great to watch a lot of people, but if the NBA doesn't force them to do it, like they do for the All Star game itelf (remember Karl Malone?), they won't once they become too big.

I thought it was a good show overall, despite the rules. I did think the commentators were annoying as hell. Was Barkley pissed off, or is he always like that?

One of the main reasons why I changed the channel.

it wasn't that good, IMO, either. They need to have more big name people like Kobe, Carter, etc

the commentators were hilarious...you are not a hoops fan if you don't like them....

Richardson's last dunk was tremendous.....

The rules did suck though.......

I think the only way they keep this thing going next year is to have Kobe, Vince, T-Mac, and Richardson as the 4 competitors......and no stupid rules....

the wheel was rigged, half the time it landed on dr.j's dunks. the judges sucked too, desmon mason's second dunk deserved more than 43 and wallaces replication of dr.j's dunk deserved more points than he acutally got too. plus its unfair because little guys like francis cant palm the ball nor do they have the long arms to do a ft line dunk. i was really impressed by richardson's showing, he ranks way up there with vince carter, but hes a one dimisional dunker, needs to work on the gliding dunks (ft line dunk) and needs to work on lifting off from one leg only

richardson and wallace definitly exceeded by expectations. Francis one wit the backboard would have been sweet, but oh well. I would've liked to see baron davis there.

charles barkeley spend half the time arguing with dumbass ernie johnson. like at the end when they interviewed gerald wallace and he was just like,. whatever that pretty much was the tone of the whole contest.

steve francis looked like he wanted to kill someone after they interviewed him after he was assigned that spinning dunk, and he didnt even bother to try it

the entire NBA Saturday Night All-Star thing was lame, lame, and LAME. The 3-point contest was probably the best show because of the "drama" that went on and a couple of the shooters had really nice forms (peja, ray allen as we all know...). The other things were just lame though. I dont' see the point in making someone who can't palm a ball do a statue of liberty or someone who isn't comfortable jumping off one foot (as the commentator told us 5005 times) do a foul-shot dunk. Lame lame and lame. No wonder the NBA ratings are going down.

That's why I say let them do whatever they want. VALUE creativity. AND give more incentives to make everyone do it. I think J-Rich showed he deserved to be there, but bona fide stars should compete too, like in the Home Run Derby. Griffey didn't want to do it one year, but he did it anyway for the fans. NBA- sometimes it's not for the fans anymore. Instead, it's: I'm too hurt to jump and dunk, but I've got no problem doing the same thing tomorrow night at the actual game and make sure I pull off all these nice moves to make me look good against these weak defenses.
