Live Finale is tomorrow... in a surprising twist in stead of booting off one of the groups at the second half of last week's show, they put all 4 in the final.

If you haven't already... I highly suggest listening to some of their songs. Particularly Jerry Lawson & Talk of the Town on Episode 4 doing House of the Rising Son, and Streetcorner Sympohony's rendition of Down on the Corner.

This season has been twice as good as last season's. This is is my evil guilty pleasure.

ELO sounds pretty damn good too

Jerry Lawson is cool when signing things in his uhm...genre. But when he gets outside of that, they sound terrible.
 
Considerably better than last season...although I do question some of the cuts they've made. Oh well, still entertaining.

Well, I agree the top three right now should be Committed, Street Corner Symphony and Jerry Lawson & The Talk of the Town. The Backbeats are okay, but they haven't found "complete" yet. I would have preferred OTR in their place.

Backbeats destroyed the loveshack. SCS is what I meant to say earlier, they sound real good. Jerry Lawson has bored me to tears during a few performances.
 
i caught up with all the episodes from on-demand this weekend.

i really dislike the jerry lawson group. im hoping backbeats or street corner win.

i was really happy when groove for thought finally got axed.
 
It's going to either be Committed or Street Corner Symphony. They are both more marketable than the Backbeats or Jerry Lawson. Either way, I think that they will all get some kind of recording contract down the line.
 
I know why the judges didn't whittle down the contestant pool. They couldn't bring themselves to oust Lawson & TotT, who would have to go next if the judges were to retain any respect and credibility. Easy way out was to let the public decide.

Inclusion of Lawson & TotT is pretty controversial, IMO. Why let a professional act compete? Next you know they'll have Straight No Chaser on the show. Now they're stuck with a pro act that (embarrassingly) isn't in the same league as the other amateurs - noticeably inferior vocals - forcing the judges to struggle to dredge up positive feedback. Yammering about "class" and "respect" because the talent just isn't there.

I did enjoy Lawson & Co's rendition of House of The Rising Sun, but they didn't wow me with sheer vocal talent like the other 3 groups last week.
 
My wife and kids LOVE this show, and I completely respect the talent these people have (this is WAY better than some tripe like American Idol). I have watched peripherally.

That being said, street corner symphony is amazingly good. The Jerry Lawson group, while good, bring NOTHING new to the table at all. The show is about talent and promotion/evolution of the art is it not? These guys are doing the same shit that's been done for 50 years.
 
Really Commited and Street Corner Symphony are the only two that blew me away this year. I haven't liked Jerry Lawson at all and thought he should have been cut right away (House of the Rising Sun is his best effort yet) and I would have liked to hear Pitch Slapped again. In general I liked last year better but I also watched them back to back while drunk with my stereo hooked up while this season is just the crappy built in speakers on my TV which leads to a noticeable lack of bass in some songs.
 
I hope that Joanna chick that sings lead for The Backbeats is over 18, because I've been imagining doing dirty things to her for a while.

This, this, and this some more. I was pretty annoyed that they let Lawson "make a comeback" on the show. It's supposed to be amateurs looking to get a big break with the music contract, not some old pro who's been around the block. I thought the purpose of the show was to promote some lesser known groups.

The judges are almost afraid to say anything negative about him, ever, even when there have been some weaker moments. For example, during Save the Last Dance for Me, he missed some of the high notes, but the judges ignored it and thought everything about him and the group was perfect.

As far as who should win, I think SCS. However, I have a feeling that the lead guy is just using this competition and the other guys as a stepping stone on his way to doing bigger things instead of staying together as a group.
 
I caught a couple episodes but was surprised at how fast the show went. Didn't bother watching to finale.
