Link to show.

My wife DVRs this show and I'll watch it with her sometimes.

If you haven't seen it, people ask for help from the show to come in and clean their house after it has fallen into abject squalor.

After watching this show a few times I can only feel sorry for these people. There must be some mental instability that causes them to drop out and give up on life. All in all, it's really rather disturbing especially when there's children involved.

I can only wonder, how do they cook, how do they dress themselves, and how do they clean themselves?

You can see bits of the show on YouTube. Some of the houses aren't really messy but areas are dirty. I keep my house relatively clutter free but there are certain areas that could use a deep clean.

People with spotless homes don't live in them.

Edit: I take that back - the houses are disgusting - I just didn't watch far enough.

Agreed. There is a big difference between cluttered and dirty (and there are certainly levels of dirtiness). Most of these places are a combination of both. People with young kids generally have houses that are both cluttered and somewhat dirty, but the dirtiness rarely reaches the level of real filth. The real test is how much of the house is that way. If the entire house is extremely dirty then yeah, they have a serious mental issue and need help. If it is just parts of the house then they just need to take the time to take better care of things.
