As long as you are not in a car on a road driving, it is fine. The drivers here suck.

that being said, the Pizza and dogs rock. I think I'll stop by Portillos for lunch and get a deep dish from Gino's East for dinner.

I second that. Even the Pizza at the airport is better than anything I can get here.

Chicago pizza is the thick circular kind and New York pizza is the thin square kind, right? If so,.

I wouldn't know I've never been there. Well I did a layover at the Airport but that doesn't count.

  1. Let's hear about the taxes...

It's better than Ohio!

I'm only going to comment on areas *outside* of Chicago. Property taxes are largely school district dependent. My parents pay about $4500 a year for a 1 acre lot, w/ an all brick 2500 sq/ft ranch w/ a 1200 sq/ft 3 stall garage. The house is appraised at over $300,000. The school district is small, but very very good.

If they moved that same place to a larger school district they'd probably be paying over $6000 a year in taxes.

State income tax is low, only 3%. Sales tax is 6.25 (but higher after city taxes).

License plates are dirt cheap - only $78 for most vehicles. I got dinged over $500 for our Highlander here in Nebraska..

Gasoline taxes are pretty high compared to other states.

Overall it's a pretty reasonable area to live. We are moving to Peoria, IL this summer. It's rated as one of the most reasonable costs of living in the nation. Considering the salary that my wife will be making compared to what housing costs and everything esle are, we'll save thousands upon thousands a year living there vs. other places we looked at.

And that's what happens in big cities. Taxes and house prices go up. And so does pay.

You think that Cleveland or Cinncinati give away property values?

I doubt it!
