Anybody using VOIP on powerbook?

I used VOIP software to make calls to telephones worldwide, from my PC laptop. Recently my uncle gave me an old Powerbook G4 with MAC OS 10.4.11.
I like the interface and feel, even though it is not as fast as my PC laptop, but I face one bottleneck in that I am unable to make VOIP calls from powerbook G4.

Is there any body who can help me or, there is no way (at least google seems to think so)?
 
You need to explain your problem in greater detail. Are you looking for a program to do VOIP? Skype supports 10.4
 
That's like asking if anyone's using HTTP on their powerbooks. You need to be more specific about either what app you're using or if you know VOIP yourself, what protocol and codec support you need.

Yes I admit my mistake , VOIP is definitely a general term for the protocol. No, I didn't mean the intricacies of the software.

I will tell you my problem. I was using SmartVoip software on my PC laptop for making calls from my laptop to mobile and landline phones worldwide. I tried to use Telephone 0.14.3 on my powerbook but after downloading and installing clicking on the icon doen't do anything. Then I came to know that the version of this software needs operating system leater than OS 10.5, which powerbook G4 cannot run.

Another of my friends who also has OS 10.4.11, is using Express talk for making phone calls from his computer( macbook ). When I tried to run this software on my machine, it gave a message which said that this software cannot run on this machine.

I googled for any software for VOIP on mac, and got this url.

Out of the software given in this, I have tried telephone already without success. I am yet to try Gizmo5. Skype is my last option because I used to get my computer very slow running it, particularly the page opened and closed very very slowly.

Has anybody tried Gizmo5.

Sorry I am new to Mac so please forgive my ignorance. Because of this software issue I packed my powerbook and started using the old PC laptop. Will let it be known if my experiment with Gizmo5.4 is successful.

What are the specs on the PowerBook? You can hit the apple logo in the upper left corner of the screen, then hold ALT and select 'System Profiler'. Depending on the age, you might be able to put Leopard on there.

Mine is PowerBook G4, with 1.67 ghz PowerPC G4 processor and 2GB DDR ram, 80 GB HDD.
As I see in your specs you are using OS X 10.5.8 version with even older powerbook. That gives me hope. How did you do it?
 
I tried Gizmo5.4. It installed and started successfully but while signing up for the account it shows that this signing up has temporarily been disabled. I will try again tomorrow.

Apple does not sell Leopard (10.5) anymore but you can still find it online through ebay. Keep in mind that Snow Leopard (10.6) is not compatible with Powerbooks or other PowerPC based computers

I put the Leopard Retail Disk in and installed (ok, that isn't true, I actually partitioned the drive, installed Tiger to Partition 1, used Tiger to restore my ISO of 10.5 to Partition 2, rebooted, launched the installer off Partition 2, wiped Partition 1, installed Leopard to P1, and then wiped and re-integrated P2 into P1.)

However, if I could have found my 10.5 Retail disk, I would have just put it into the drive and installed from it 🙂

Any G4 above 867MHz will run 10.5. However, Oil is right in that 10.6 which is currently on shelves will not run on PPC.
