anybody used an external ide to parallel port adapter box

ok so my sister wants to be able to hook a cd-rom up to her pentium 120 laptop but wants to do it cheap. speed is not really a concern here as it will mostly be used for installing the odd application and etc.

i found this thing for sale and basically its a small box with a power supply in it and room for 1 ide device. its also got electronics to adapt the ide device to parallel, and of course dos and windows drivers.

anybody know if this kind of arangement works? we have an working but noisy 24x cd to whack in it.
