Since I'm moving on the 19th, I thought it would be a great time to quit. I won't set up a place on the patio to smoke, less temptation.

I've tried patches in the past, and didn't get very far, but the Dr suggested I use Zyban... But that crap is expensive! $150 a month! And I have to continue smoking for a month after I start taking it. But the timing is right, though I wish I had started taking it in Nov.

What was your experience?

Well, I've never smoked, nor do I know anything about Zyban, but...

Definitely give it a shot. If nothing else, the extreme expense of the program will force you to try even harder to quit.
Good luck.

I've been taking Wellbutrin since the end of June when my stepfather died from Cancer. It took a while to kick in, but I have been smoke free since 9-11.

The thing to remember is, no drug alone can make you quit. You have to want to quit first. Your own willpower is stronger than any pill designed to control cravings and break habits.

I agree...

And I'd forgotten that Welbutrin is the same drug. Hmmm.... That stuff is cheaper....

Well, that ties into bryan's statement, which is true. A pill can supplement, but you need to find most of the power to stop within yourself. Many millions have stopped smoking cold turkey.

Its the truth... how much do you smoke? I smoked over a pack a day. Getting over the mental addiction is the hard part... the physical side of it is easily bearable. Most of the people I know that "can't" stop smoking don't really want to quit... they just know they should. I can understand needing medical help if its heroin or meth, but quitting cigarettes is basically a willpower issue. Save the $150 a month for something else. :)

How long did you smoke for, a week?

Some people just aren't able to do that, including me.

I did the Zyban Route and it takes the mental edge off. It worked for me, until i Went off of the Zyban. Then I started smoking again right after. Guess i really wasnt 100% committed to Quiting.

zyban made me sleep more and kinda spacey. Forget about drinking with it, It makes you a lightweight and you get hammered off of like 3 beers.

4 years. 15-19. pretty formative.
The only hard part is being in situations where you feel inclined to smoke out of habit. (e.g. after you eat, driving, bars).
You really just have to get over it. By the way, once you quit smoking you realize how freaking gross cigarettes are.

The patch always worked the best, I think. I've quit about 3 times for extended periods. Don't beat yourself up if you don't quit right away. I quit for a year, then started again when I met my GF (who still smokes). I finally said to hell with it and quit for good in January and have been fine without smoking since. 4 weeks of the patch, 2 weeks full dose, 1 week smaller, 1 week smallest...

Couldn't be more true.

I smoked a pack or more a day for about 4 of my 6 smoking years. I quit in January ... I've found this program from silkquit.org helpful.

Ten months, two weeks, six days, 11 hours, 20 minutes and 9 seconds. 6489 cigarettes not smoked, saving $1,184.32. Life saved: 3 weeks, 1 day, 12 hours, 45 minutes.

I didn't have to smoke for a month. Glaxo-welcome who make the drug don't recommend that either so if your doctor said that then he needs to read up on drugs before prescribing them.

I used Zyban 3 years ago to quit smoking. The first week you smoke liek normal. Near the end of the first week you will notice less desire to smoke. During the second week you should make an effort to cut down and change your habits. I used to stop and get coffee and smoke on the way to work. I cut both out so that I wasn't sitting there with my coffee craving a cigarette. Once I got to work I grabbed a coffee but the ritual was different and helps break the habit. The addiction is easy to get over. The habit is the hard part. I founf it very easy to cut down during the second week and actually wanted to stop smoking before the week was up.

Once I quit that was it. Haven't had a cigarette yet. I still get cravings now and then but they pass. The only thing I have noticed is some vivid dreaming. I haven't had any of the other side effects. And I drink on it all the time and don't have any problems(and I wish I could get drunk on 3 beer). My brother took Zyban and successfully quit. However he experienced insomnia and had to cut down to one pill a day instead of 2.

As for the cost. How much do you spend on cigarettes in a month. For me I used to spend approx $75 a month on cigarettes. So if I successfully quit for 2 months then it was worth the money. It's been 3 years so I'm glad I ponied up the cash to quit. And if your hard up and have a drug plan just go tell your doctor your depressed and you want to try Wellbutrin for treatment. It's the same thing but is covered by most drug plans.
