I downloaded the SDLMame src, change a couple of settings in the makefile and ran make. Unfortunately I noticed that it did not create a sdlmame executable file. It seems to have created other executable files that are part of the build. At the end of the compile it didn't show any errors.

I am using Slackware v12 (full install). The version of sdlmame I'm trying to use is v117.

I could get xmame to compile and run, but it's only on v106 and doesn't suppose some games I'm interested in trying.

xmame has pretty much depreciated in favor of sdlmame. With Xmame there was a lot more work gone into it to make it Linux-specific, were as SDLmame is more or less a recompile of the windows version. Less duplication of effort.

Unfortunately I don't know much about compiling it. Did you read the SDLMAME.txt file? That's all I get from their website.

I'm using SDLMame on Ubuntu, and Wah!Cade as the front end.
