I have the chance to get this and was just wondering how it compares to Frontpage, Dreamweaver, etc. Anybody have any opinions?

I've downloaded the tryout version, and it is a pretty good program, but there are a couple things that bother me, for one thing, I can't figure out how to create a layer, i.e. position an image absolutely, like over a background and under a table. Maybe I am missing something, but I could find no way to do this except manually. Editing in a table cell is for crap, too. It reminds me of HotMetal, where you couldn't do squat with tables. I will admit the interface is nice.

It's been a year since I did my own shoot-out between FrontPage, Dreamweaver and GoLive. I forget most of the specifics, but Dreamweaver won hands down. If you're an absolute newbie then FP or GL might be the better choice. But with any skills, Dreamweaver truly rules the bunch. A case in point is the way Dreamweaver handles templates. The program makes it obvious and easy, but the code produced will run anywhere. With FP, you end up with a bunch of "bots" and other goofie FP extensions. Yes, you can use a wizard to put up a website fast, but (a) you won't learn much doing it and (b) you'll have a very hard time maintaining it, enhancing it, or porting it to a non-MS server.

I agree with mooseAndSquirre that Dreamweaver is far superior for creating professional web sites and if you can afford it for personal use. Golive is good program, better than Front Page but not as good Dreamweaver.

ive used dreamweaver, front page, and go live. i think theyre all good for "drag and drop coding" but i always look at the code it creates and tidy up. its much faster that way. i think front page was the most intuitive program of the three. go live was second and dreamweaver was darn near impossible to learn how to use, although quite powerful. i like em all. go live is a great program.
