I've been thinking of trying this. I use the program Ramdisk XP by Superspeed, i think it turns it into a normal drive, so the contents are saved. But anyways, i have 512 megs of ram, and Quake 3 only takes up about 200 max I THINK. Loading times are important to me, do you think it would be feasable?

Only if you never turned your computer off.

Which means it probably dumps the files onto the hard drive and recopies them during the load.

If the RAM disk program has a disk-flush option, then yes, you could get incredible speed that way.

Even if it doesn't, you could reinstall the game in RAM every time you reboot. Depending on how often you reboot and how often you play, this may or may not be a big deal.

I haven't seen a ramdrive that dumps, but it is possable.

that would defeat the load times tho would it not?

People did this exact thing when Q3 came out :) Do a search for quake 3 ram drive and it should give you the step by steps.

Ok, i tried it with Rocket Arena 3, and i did notice it load a bit quicker, but it wasn't anything drastic? What's up with this? Instead of just dragging the appropriate folders over, should i actually install the game to the ram drive? See, this poses a problem because pak0.pak is about 480 megs, and i had to manually edit the pak in order to shrink it down to about 100 megs. And since i don't need most of the models/maps, this isn't a problem. But BrunoPuntzJones, do you remember if they had any great improvements in load time? I noticed that sounds loaded faster, but the map loading still took a good 4-5 seconds...

BAH, i found out that it was only that one map that loads slow, the other maps load just fine.
