So when syncing in chrome you can also set something called "synch passphrase". After reading google support i still don't get what setting passphrase does more then not using it. Google says that passwords in chrome (which i don't use btw) are already encrypted anyway, so what does passphrase do more?

Also, if you use passphrase, will you have to give that password everytime you restart you computer?

Something else i would like to know.. when i come back to for example this forum i never have to re-enter my password for it.. where is that info stored as I don't see it in "manage passwords" in the chrome settings? However when i delete cookies the auto logins are gone, so where are these stored and why are they not in "manage passwords" in the chrome settings?

Hope somebody can clarify the above. Thanks!

Yes, pretty much all forums use cookies to preserve your login info.
The actual login info itself should be in password manager.

Checked again, login info is not in the 'manage passwords' popup in chrome settings. I even have save passwords unchecked, so where is site autologin data stored?

And what about that sync passphrase i mentioned above? Thanks.

If you set a passphrase it will use that passphrase to encrypt the data. Meaning it will use that passphrase to encrypt the data locally before uploading it to the Google servers. The idea is that this will prevent even Google from accessing the content of the stuff you sync.

I believe you should only have to enter the passphrase once on the initial sync and then only on different computers or if you reinstall Windows or something along those lines. You'd have to enter it separately in addition to your regular Google login in those cases. Also I don't believe there's any way to recover the passphrase in any way so you should make sure you remember it or have it saved somewhere (i.e. password manager).

Can you use your google account pass as sync passphrase in chrome?

Also, if you first have to start syncing normally, before you can set a passphrase, is all your info like bookmarks not already on google's servers?

Anybody has tried this "passphrase" feature in chrome?
