I don't want to go to the emergency room just for pink eye and all the walk-in clinics are closed right now.

I see breast milk, honey, and tea as remedies on websites. Obviously I trust ATOT more than any other websites so I ask of you: have you ever treated pink eye with home remedies and has it worked?

Go to Tractor Supply or some other farm store. They have pink eye treatment there.

(erythromycin eye ointment). Costs about $5.

Note: I am not a doctor of ophthalmology, though I have treated animals successfully in the past, and I did just make reservations at the Holiday Inn.

Pharmacies sell eye wash made with boric acid, which is an accepted treatment for pink eye, but read the instructions first (you seem to be the kind of person who needs to be told this), in case it's not diluted enough for use.

Lemon juice & clorox mixed together will take care of pink eye.

Seriously, when talking about the eyeballs go to the doctor ...

A drop of colloidal silver is the best for this. You can find it at most health food stores.

Don't listen to those guys. Simply find a ready source of warm, dilute, uric acid and B vitamins. Rinse the affected area often and thoroughly...

Be sure and post a video of the treatment to You Tube.

Neosporin ointment. I actually used it for that purpose once when I was poor/no insurance/desperate. It worked. Although since you've only two eyes which are fragile and you are SOL once something happens to them, I'd sure as hell go to a walk-in clinic or ER if I had access to one.

Agree. Cheapest and most effective way to treat without going to an MD's office.

We've used Terramycin ointment successfully in our animals, too. It's an oxytetracycline compound. And OP, while these opthalmic ointments are labeled "for animal use only", guess what....it's the same exact drug as the human labeled drug. Same sterility, etc.

Remember, if you go this route, and it's perfectly safe as long as you aren't allergic to the meds (but the same caveat goes for any meds you get from any source), do NOT touch the tip of the ointment's tube to your eye or fingers/hands or anywhere else. That'll just introduce the bacteria into the med, contaminating it.

If his pinkeye is caused by a virus, erythromycin etc. isn't really useful. Mother's milk might be (yes really).

It could be viral though and not bacterial. Or shoot it could be both, that would really suck. Need pills for viral.

Just a warning. I get an eye infection every year or so. Most likely a shingles infection in the eye. Usually I wait it out. This time however my eye got blood red and felt like there was broken glass in it. It then felt like it was going to explode it hurt so bad. I was SO lucky I had some Vicodin in the fridge. I would have never made it through the night. I thought I was going to die. I ended up for the first time getting meds from the eye doctor. He still wasn't totally sure what it is or if it was both but he gave me meds for both.

Anyway you can try to wait it out, or try some things for a bacterial infection (salt water usually kills bacteria but the bacteria is deeper in your eye than it can reach -more salt than your tears obviously). Antibacterial soap might help too. But be prepared to go to the doctor or have pain meds ready if you try to wait it out. Out of the 12 times I've had an eye infection this is the only one I couldn't wait out.

Medical 'advice' from forums... sure, let's make it fun!
To make sure it is pink eye, wear some gloves, use a spoon to remove eyeball, and once it is out of the socket, snap some pics, and post them here.

wash your hands after pooping no pink eye.

Or stop putting it in the butt of prison inmates and rubbing your eyes.

You can get it from a cold or allergies. In that case, it's probably not contagious. If you don't have either of those, get to the clinic first thing tomorrow morning.

Cold (almost certainly a virus) might be contagious. Allergies won't be. Allergies will likely show up in both eyes. An infection might show up in just one.

Well, no more contagious that the cold is normally. I had conjunctivitis from a cold over the holidays. Caught it from my mom, but she didn't get the red eyes from it. Yay me.

Could it be a stye? Clean your eye out with some sterile eye rinse you can buy at the pharmacy. That should help out with whatever you have. Just do that for about two days to see if it gets better. If not then go to the doctor.
