Anybody switch from an old iPod to the new one?

I've got a friend who has an old iPod, with MusicMatch installed on his machine, and has bought a new one to replace the old one, but isn't particularly computer savvy. He has the MusicMatch software installed, but when he plugs in the new unit, MusicMatch won't synch with it. Since I have no experience with iPods, does anyone know what is required? What does he need to do to get the new iPod recognised?

Thanks.

No disrepect intended to your friend, but why would he buy a new Ipod unless his old one no longer functioned?

i'm not familiar with the new ipod myself, but your friend might want to check out the ipod lounge forums. they've been very usefulin fixing my problems when i've had any with my ipod, and the people there are very helpful. also, your friend might want to try using ephpod to use with his ipod. much better interface and faster than musicmatch, imho.

hope this helps,

The FAQ man is asking questions? that's not allowed;)

I have no experience with them either but couldn't he just drag and drop the mp3s from the folder where they are stored (ie circumvent musicmatch) then resync w/ musicmatch? Just a guess but it shouldn't be too difficult. Also, if you actually name the ipods in the same was as pda's, maybe using the same name as the original would help...

and hurry up and delete SARS over there

ephpod isn't really an option at the moment. I'll check out that Lounge forum.

Any more?

has he checked to see if there are any updates for musicmatch? i imagine the version wouldn't be the same, if he has a new ipod.

He has MusicMatch 7.5; apparently you can't update to version 8 with the one that comes with the new iPod. The new iPod comes with version 8....as I said, he's not comuter savvy, so he's really leery of installing things. I'll see if I can go over and figure out what is going on. Thanks.
