Anybody still having issues with 3DMark 2000 not finishing the benches?

This is on my PIII 600 laptop with an ATI Rage 128.

When I first got the machine it ran fine... gave me a whopping 1665 score but I couldn't remember in what mode.

So, after a week of installing software, adding memory, changing Windoze 2000 settings, etc., I can't get through Game 2 on the bench.

I would not be surprised that my laptop overheats but I've never had a problem otherwise, so I wondering if 3DMark 2000 is same bugs that it had in the previous version. (I'm running 1.1 - I knew this was sometimes an issue on stable systems with version 1.0.) I'm too lazy at the moment to install Unreal Tournament flyby and my usual desktop CPU stress testers at them moment.

I have a PIII 700 @ 933 and cannot get the benchmark to finish. I tried increasing the core voltage but that did not help. The only way it would finish was to take the cpu down to stock speed which makes the score useless since I wanted to get my score at the overclocked speed. So far this program seems to be my only problem with the overclock.

Probably a driver issue for the video card or cpu heating problems. My P3700 at 933 with GF2MX also o/clocked runs it flawlessly all the time.

Claw57 - Is your system stable under UT or Q3? When 3DMark crashes on me, its because my overclock is not 100% stable. If I get 3DMark crashes, I usually get UT crashes.

I think its your ram maybe when I used to have a intel system overclocked with 256megs of ram 2 sticks of 128 they were not the same brand so 3dmarks would always not finnish so I pulled on of the sticks and puff like magic it worked Hope this helps...

Mine wouldn't finish, it would just drop to the desktop. then I re-installed DirectX8, all is well now..

UT and everything else works fine on my computer. run 3dmark and crashes.

as long as i can run everything else fine, doesn't matter to me if 3dmark crashes.

When I do 3D mark with my Thunderbird 1.2GHz it skips the cpu bench... Kinda odd if you ask me.

ok i bumped up my I/O to 3.5v and screwed a fan onto my geforce MX heatsink. i guess my card was either overheating before or had the I/O too low and so crashed 3dmark.

with MX clocked at 185/200, i got a score of 4356. is this good???

now if i can only get my mem and core speed to stick; reverts to default after 2 reboots.

If I o/c my TNT2 M64 too much (eg memory at 154 MHz) it doesn't complete 3d Mark 2000. Otherwise I get a score around 2190ish.

Renob- It bothers me also that there is something that crashes my overclocked system. The thing about it though is that my system, like ingenue007, runs UT, Quake, and all of my other programs without a problem. While during my normal use of my system I have no problems there is a nagging feeling that I get wondering why it won't finish 3DMark!!! Is it just a sign of a problem waiting to happen??? I don't know! It seems to be the consensus that if the only problem my system has is with 3DMark, then I don't have a problem. ( yet I can't keep from feeling that I do )

On another note- SuperSix- do you have any problems with DirectX 8? I have read on these boards that it is very troublesome and next to impossible to remove once it is installed.

Thanks.
