Anybody see Frontline on Public Television yesterday?

It was talking about the Russian Sex Slave business.
They get poor girls from Ukraine and ship them to Turkey and then move them through the sex trade.
It seems the governments over there don't do anything because it makes a lot of revenue over there. It is sick and revolting. They even get girls who have kids, so that they can threaten them if they don't cooperate. Somehow America has been more immune, not totally immune, to this industry. More than likely because we are so conservative when it comes to sex.

Well part of it is that the people over there have different views about women. To them they are just hings to be used and then thrown away when it doesn't make you any more money. The other thing is that law enforcement is so under paid in other countries that the guys running these rings can easily pay the Five-Oh to stay off their backs.

It's sick but what can we do?

<heads to airport to go to Thailand> 😉

It is also sick that the girls are usually tricked by people that they are close to. Family members, friends... A lot of them are underage, or they single moms, but they did show a few girls who were married who thought they were going to Turkey to find a reputable job, when they were sold to slavery.

They interviews some of the victims and most of them said that they were forced into rooms with many girls and would have to be with men 10-15 times a day.
One of them was forced, under threat of death, to have an abortion, 5 days later they stuck a spongue in her and sent her back out to "work".

It is just sick. Made me feel like hurling.

I watched yesterday evening too. Just terrible to see what happens to them.

The Vlad guy appalled me. He spoke of the "Apo" person as not "having a shred of human decency", all while he was getting paid for human trafficking himself. All of the traffickers, for that matter, were disgusting people. I also found it was just sad to see "Tanya" to go back to Turkey to provide for her sick brother near Chernobyl. It was good to see Virel reunited with his wife, but it's obvious she was changed forever.

All in all, it was, understandably, a fairly depressing view into a world I never knew that much about.

Make prostitution legal?

That wouldn't get rid of Sex Slaves. Some of these countries have legal prostitution, but it is cheaper to just purchase a girl and take all of the profits. If you have an organized crime racket that can make more money off of slaves, why would they do anything different. Plus, prostitution is degrading to women IMO. But that is a side issue.

Sure there is. There are laws in almost every major nation on Earth that say that kidnapping, assault, etc are not permissible. They're just not enforced.

Even when people are caught, in many countries, prosecution rates are abysmal. Case in point, Vlad (a trafficker) was turned in by Virel (whose wife was lied to and sold) but was only sentenced to 5 years probation when he should have received 15 years in prison.

And when Vlad reported Apo, the Pimp, to the Turkish police. The staged a raid, but somehow Apo, got away, even though there was only one exit surrounded by policemen. Also, Apo was alerted to the raid, by an "accidental" whistle blown by a police officer during the sting operation.

One of the prostitutes that got away went to the cops and the cops brought her back to the pimp. Some of the girls even said that the cops regularly used their "services". It is just sick over there.
