Some 4x media can burn at 8x. For example, the Memorex DVD-R 4X 10pk I bought from Staples last weekend burns at 8X with my 2500A.

Someone has come out with DVD-R at 8X but I am not sure who. I have a plextor and can burn +R 8x with TDK and Ritek media.

I'd stick with the Plextor. What is up with the slow ass 24X CD-R burning speed on the Pioneer 107? Plextor only does 4X on DVD-R (hopefully they'll come out with a firmware that bumps it up to 8X DVD-R) but it burns CD-R at 40X. I don't know about you, but when I get my DVD burner, I'm still gonna be burning CDs more often then DVDs. And if I want to burn DVDs fast, I'll just get DVD+Rs. I'm getting a Plextor, no doubt about it.

Which Plextor do you have? I have the PX708a, and I sure can't.

update your firmware to 1.04, it will allow you to burn some 4x media at 8x

and read this

Well I have a Pioneer 120S for my DVD drive, and I'm planning on replacing my LiteOn 8X CDRW (LONG overdue) with a DVD burner. I'll be using my Pioneer to rip DVDs and CD, and my DVD burner to burn DVDs and CDs. ;)

Why do people always complain about the slow burnning speed on dvdrw drives?
burnning 24x cdr compair to a 52x is only 30-40sec difference. What are you going to do when you save those few extra second?
Plus cdr burners only burn at their full speed on the last 10sec of the burning process.

Any 8x media yet? I saw some Riteks, but I'm looking for more of a name brand like Verbatim. I know it's supposed to be out there, but I haven't found but maybe one place selling it.

I would consider ritek a name brand
