Anybody regret their 7700k purchase?

Why would anyone regret buying 7700K? It is a good chip that does great in its own segment. People usually buy it for 1080p gaming and it is the best SKU one can buy for the money at the moment. That might change in the future but future always brings new toys so it's pointless to wait for something new because that way you wouldn't ever buy anything, you'd be just waiting and waiting.

Yes and it is future proof. When I can afford a GPU and monitor for 4k I'll already have the correct CPU. :D

I actually regret waiting but this applies to both the 7700k and Ryzen due to increased cost and time factor.

I passed on a 6700k, mobo, and memory purchase on Black Friday. Pricing was much friendlier than and would've been roughly a $150 or more cost savings compared to a 7700k or 1700 plus mobo, memory purchase now.

I even regret not having just gotten a 4790k build 2 years+ ago. Was even cheaper (due to lower USD).

Not a single bit (pun intended). It replaced my aging 2500K and everything just works so much faster now.
Also, I bought it so cheap that nothing even comes close to it's price/performance ratio, and the saved money would go into a new VGA card soon.

Why would people regret? 7700K is a great chip, even versus BW-E or Ryzen, and because of it's 4 high clocked cores it will remain relevant for the long run. I have gone the Ryzen way but that's because i like to experiment new tech.

I thought I did, as I purchased the i7 7700k to upgrade from my i3 6300. Ended up sending it back to newegg for a refund since I never opened it. Got a Ryzen r7 1800x instead which I am starting to regret as it doesn't work at all and my motherboard got bricked out of the blue and for no reason at all. Long story short, I wish I would have just kept my i7 7700k and left Ryzen alone. I have to now send all this Ryzen stuff back to newegg for a replacement and live without a PC for another week or 2.

Nope. I only have it clocked at 4.6ghz but it's nice and snappy for all the uses I have for it, which is mostly gaming (144hz 1440p), browsing the web, watching shows, and serving as my media server for the family. I rarely do any video editing or encoding and when I do I'll just walk away and let it do it's thing, which is still plenty fast for my needs.

I don't own the 7700k yet, but I will...and I won't regret having gone that route. I planned a Kaby Lake build and started with a G4560 Pentium on a Z270 board, which I'll upgrade eventually and drop in an i7 7700 or 7700K. Ryzen looks promising, but I didn't want to be an early adopter with my money, limited as it is. I know the Z270 platform is looking far more solid than the current AM4 selections.

Z270 is barely an updated Z170 platform. It is expected to be far more solid.

Why would you regret a 7700K/6700K . I would still recommend it to lot of people ,I have my ryzen 1700 still on backorder with mobo/memory combo still to be deciced.
Normally I would place myself in the market segment of 7500-7600 and find the 7700K to expensive but because of the1700 there has been some nice deals popping around on 7700K. I personally just find the 100$ for 4 more cores a really nice trade off compared to the 7700K.

7700k right now
+great deals going around in my area 50-70euro off
+best gaming cpu
+it works out of the box
-the jump from 4/4 to 4/8 is a bit expensive

1700 right now
+great OC
+good all rounder , massive MT
+good trade off in the 330 dollar segment if gaming is not a priority
-memory selection/motherboard stability
-low supply motherboards , making them expensive , lot of B350 in stock are priced 20-30euro higher because demand , same for X370.

+/- AM4 platform on the long run , I am not so optimistic about expecting Zen+/Zen2 to work on B350 line up for example.

I am personally gambling a little bit on 8 core helping me more in 1/2 years but that is pure speculation.

UPDATE : If you feelign regrets , pretty sure also some ryzen people are regretting it and wish they had a 7700K. We finally have some choices and trade offs to make in cpu land. We just not used to it anymore xD

Why is yours still on backorder? The cpus shouldn't be hard to find at the moment.

Why would anyone regret going with the z170/z270 platform? My 6700k runs stable at 4.6 is able to run duel channel ram at 15cl. They're good chips that get the job done whatever task you throw at them.

I would regret a little for not going with 7600K and saving $$. I never saw the value of SMT w/ its premium on desktop, and now Ryzen make it look silly. But the fastest ST performance SKL provides (in the form of i5 processors) has a firm place in the market in my view.

Nope...It's great I waited for reviews of Ryzen before upgrading my old rig. It's the best gaming CPU out there.

I cant really see anyone being regretful of a 7700k purchase, unless they purchased it as a workstation not as a gaming PC, then i could see them being regretful because ryzen is cheaper and better for productivity uses. But i doubt this would ever happen as 7700k was never really a workstation CPU.

Going with an 8 core Ryzen to replace my 2500k clocked at 4.5GHz. We'll see in a months time.
