I may not know much about forum software, but it seems like the phpBB forums run just as well, and that's free.

I dunno how well it performs when the database hits the size of this one. Fusetalk handles it pretty well, short of the search function.

No.

This forum software is amazing, imo. phpBB is crappy and bloated.

the only thing that can compete is vbulletin

477 users online. Not that different than 620 on AT.

3 years ago AT was transferring 2,600GB per month in traffic. I assume it has grown since then.

The quality of fusetalk has gone down yet the prices have gone way up. It's a rip.

pbnation.com regularly has 2,500+ people and it runs vBulletin. I can't imagine the bandwidth costs.

I think FuseTalk is a much slicker (is that even an adjective?) environment, and it certainly seems faster than vBulletin.

That's not too bad... The licenses for SQL Server Enterprise Edition back-end database server probably cost a lot more than that.

We pay $60k annually for email, and $60k annually for a portal. I doubt Fusetalk is an annual software contract...

Whatever forum software penny-arcade uses is insane. The threads there average 10k to 40k views. With 2000 posts. Allows embedded images in posts, avatars, and sigs. Allows full searching of entire forum, by thread subject or by individual post. They have their share of issues, which seem to be hardware related, but the forum software itself is beastly.

Plus it has proper quoting.

Gamefaqs is pretty beastly too. Despite the fact that it is annoying to read anything there, the design is rather nice and the forums must be getting hit by an ungodly number of people daily.
