One of my friends use to be really into DnD but since coming to college he hasn't played. Now he's trying to wrangle up some common friends of ours to play. He gave me this book, DND PLayer's Handbook to look at so i can make a character.

Ive played online mmporgs so i have a pretty good idea of class/builds etc. Right now the monk looks pretty cool. anyone have any suggestions on how to maximize my character, if im gonna play i might as well make the most of it.

My friends and I play sometimes, usually we just sit around and drink, we have an odd assortment of people playing, 2 women 2 guys and 1 gay guy as our dm, in our recent campaign I played a Tiefling rogue... became an assassin when I could, and it worked out pretty well for me... another fun class is frenzied berserker, you start as a barbarian to get to this prestige class. If you are frenzied berserker be a half orc... I don't really have any other suggestions, there are a ton of classes/races that you could be as well as prestige classes, there is probably a wiki article about each class and their strengths and weaknesses, also you could try www.wizards.com

You can sometimes get people who are fairly normal, and even married, but you can also get freaks who ramble about their 15th level ranger in high school that got a hammer of thunderbolts after killing a drow. Oh, and the WONDERFUL smell of BO from people who are afraid of using this mythical thing called "a shower." Then there are the creeps who will just stare at any girls who are at the table, and act creepy towards them. Then there is the occasionaly Dungeon Master who's a complete d*ck the way he runs the game. Then there's having 8 people yelling at once, saying what they're doing while not being heard by the DM, and getting yelled at if you try to quiet everyone down so you can actually *play*

Don't get me wrong, it can be fun, but I thought I'd list the things which drove me out of it when I played in college.

"I live in a world of cold steel and dungeons and mighty foes"

"I live in a world of dungeons too. The dungeon where we're taking you is called the Reno County Jail. How's that dungeon, you're going to like that dungeon."

...

"I'm wearing boots of escaping!!!"

DnD + College = Death

I don't understand how someone would even consider it.

LOL, no kidding. I go to San Diego State and I catch enough crap for building computers to sink a battleship.

I can't even imagine playing DnD.

D&D Is a ton of fun.

For a first time player I would consider just running a straight fighter to get the hang of everything.

Also, www.theonlysheet.com This will make your life INFINITELY easier

www.d20srd.com is also a really handy tool.

Lastly, if you don't have an experienced GM, I would stick to a premade module so everyone can get a feel for their roles, being an experienced player does not make you a good GM.

I used to play a lot, like from 13-17, but not much anymore. We used to be a bunch of kids at school who could kick anyones a$$ who made fun of us playing magic and DnD.

Looks at girls playing creepily, lol, I love that.

Creepily is just a euphamism for shy and wish they could kick everyone out but her and have sex for a week. Consensual of course. I can definately see whey it makes her uncomfortable though. BUT, if he is a hot hunk...

at the least you know the guys sexual preference.
