I've been looking into getting one of these as a project car, btw people are crazy with prices on a 17 y/o car. Is this something that would be an enjoyable project for some time. Or is past it's prime. Current ride is an 05 Acura TL 6 speed http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3596/3478019881_3557074886_m.jpg. Love it but sometimes I see a mini cooper or mid engine take a turn at warp speed and get jealous. NSX is out of my price range, s2000 is a bit more than I'd like to spend.

I'd rock it... Ive actually been looking for the right deal on a fixer upper. My Idea is an example with an upgraded turbo would sound really nice coming from the rear, and an upgraded suspension would make it feel like a go-kart.

But I too like s2000's... lower price s2000's are getting close to the very clean later year MR2 prices.

This one could be a good project, minus the salvage title:

That generation MR2 (turbo) is a great platform for anything you want, straight line or cornering. The 3SGTE is a great platform to tinker with; lots of aftermarket and community support. The cars are priced a bit high for their age, but they are still a steal at $6,000 to $8,000.

The suspension was changed after '91 to make it safer from snap over steer in the hands of a novice. Depending on what you plan on doing with the suspension and changing anyway; enthusiasts prefer the '91 year with the original suspension design since it can rotate easier in the hands of an experienced driver like it should.

As far as the Miata goes, throw a turbo or ls1 in it and embarrass your friends, and they will keep there mouths shut.
